Their grandfather just died. You would be complaining if they made a big deal out of it. "They are supposed to be mourning, but they're celebrating their anniversary instead???"

That would be the case if they hadn’t reduced the official days of mourning to make a big deal of their anniversary. If you’re going to go do that to get attention, at least do something! Because if all you’ve got is an old video and a copy of the book your SIL published years ago, then the death of a beloved family member is the perfect excuse (to continue) to do nothing.

They could have leaned into being respectful and honoring a monarch. They could have followed the traditional 30 days of mourning. Instead they insisted the focus be on them and they’re surprised people are underwhelmed and disappointed.

I couldn’t have said it better. They curtailed the mourning period for a consort of 60 years and a Royal of equal standing with the Queen by birth for what? Three photos - one of which in terrible need of edits - and a video that would have been better use to sell Range Rovers.

The mourning period that generated an epic number of complaints to the BBC?

Good for them not leaning in on that.

What generated complaints was canceling regular broadcasts to cover the funeral. That was ONE day.

That has nothing to do with the royal family’s official 30 days of mourning. William and Kate were given a golden opportunity with the timing. Honoring the traditional 30 days for Will and Kate would have meant they would have skipped traditional engagements focused on them personally like anniversary press conferences and birthday pictures. It would have shown the world they honor tradition above all else and they are willing to sacrifice for the monarchy. In short, it would have been seen as the ultimate act of service. This is the type of thing that would have become part of their narrative forever.

And they blew it.

OMG! Imagine if they had released anniversary photos of Philip at their wedding ten years ago. And on Charlote’s birthday, previously unseen photos of Philip with her. She’s turning 6, so they could have done one per year. It would have been beautiful and beyond reproach. How are they so bad at this?

Or an unseen photo of Princess Elizabeth being crowned for her wedding and Kate putting on her makeup for hers. Then a photo of both couples in a private moment. With words referencing change but continuity.

Would have been beautiful.

Yes, exactly! So many possibilities. And the best part is that they could have pretended that they were sacrificing a big anniversary celebration for ‘service and honor’ when they had nothing.

Huh? We’re saying it would have a been much better to have posted photos of Charlotte with her great grandfather. She’s 6 so it’s not like she’s making these decisions. We’re saying her parents should have honored her great grandfather’s memory by posting photos of them together. Maybe the last one could have been of Charlotte alone. It would have a beautiful tribute and showed the continuity of the monarchy.

The photo Will and Kate posted was a missed opportunity. It’s not “gross” to point it out.

William and Kate are being criticized for not posting photos of Charlotte with her great grandfather. Try to keep up.

DP. Kate’s uncle literally just gave an interview saying they should skip Charles. No way that happened without William’s either explicit or tacit approval. I personally think they should keep the order as is because the whole premise of maintaining the BRF is tradition and history. Also think that out of all of them Charles is the only one with two brain cells to rub together. He’s just lacking in emotional intelligence.

People have been talking about skipping Charles for decades. For as long as we've been alive. They've also been talking about getting rid of the monarchy for even longer.

That's not new.

I don't think they lose sleep over these petty criticism, nor should they. They have a whole PR team working for them.

I guarantee that if they had released a photo of Charlotte with Phillip, you'd all be on here talking about how inappropriate to post because it was taking advantage of people's sympathies from the death of the DOE. Really they can't win.

They clearly aren’t very good- a 200 million pound tax payer funded royal yacht while the government is going into austerity mode is a bad look
