St. Anselm's Abbey School-Inappropriate relationship between teacher/coach and student

Anonymous
Has anyone heard anything about an incident involving an inappropriate relationship between teacher/coach and a student at St. Anselm's Abbey School?

I have heard that this incident led to the immediate firing of said teacher/coach in early November. I am concerned that the student may not being receiving the support he needs from the school.

What causes you to be concerned? Has the boy said something to you? Why don't you talk to the school's counselors, or the parents, or someone in a position to help.

I think that OP might wish to indirectly publicize the incident and what s/he considers to be an inadequate response by the school.

I'm not sure that a protracted discussion on DCUM would make the student feel better, or more supported. If there is an issue with how the school handled it (immediate firing sounds good to me), please say so directly.

OP,
This is an invasion of this student's privacy, since presumably people in the St. Anselm's community know his identity. I appeal to the administrator to remove this post.

I see no need to remove this post. Had such a situation taken place in public school the story would have been well publicized. Hushing a story like this only protects the offending party and often administrators trying to cover up the offense.

14:05 Your reasoning is specious. As I said, this student is identifiable to anyone familiar with the situation and that should be grounds for pulling this entire thread -- for the student's privacy. If OP knows more, like the coach is interviewing for jobs at areas schools, then by all means, get the word out. But DCUM is not the place. I feel very strongly about this and have posted as much in other threads when posters have gotten reckless and told stories about individual students who would be recognizable to those in their community. It's really an outrage and I wish DCUM would police this better.

I agree that OP's motives may have been less than pure, but the only identifiable piece of information was that this was the child in this particular incident. You would only be able to identify the child if you already knew about the incident, in which case the child has received no extra exposure. I for one have no idea who this child is.

I agree with prior posts that DCUM is NOT the place to provide support or even discuss such an incident.

I disagree actually. I don't want the ID of the student obviously but think this is indeed a good place to discuss things like this. What one can do to support the student(s). I wish that Beauvoir would have done more when we dealt with the pedophile incident there. There has been little (if any) support from the school and many of the boys from the several years that the Beauvoir teacher was there still could use support (out and known considering he is still featured on America's Most Wanted and the FBI list for crimes against children, Mr. Toth).

I agree with 15:12. No names need be used but its for parents and potential parents to know that that the school is trying counseling, ensuring no other students were harmed and that the teacher is not going to wind up at another school in the near or not so near future. If that is the case, then someone should speak up and this thread should end. But if not, then maybe there should be a discussion as to what is appropriate for a school to do when such an incident occurs.
Also, how would anyone outside of the school's community know the identity of the boy or the teacher from the OP?

The coach/teacher was fired. What is St. Anselm's not doing? Why is OP dredging this up? Plus how much can a school do? If this happened to my son, I would get him therapy apart from school and would be satisfied that the school fired the coach/teacher.

Think about the student. What if he found out about this thread? Or his parents? Would they be happy? This thread seems to serve no purpose. It's insensitive. I do not get the point of OP's post. What does OP expect the school to do?

There is more, actually. The coach could be prosecuted, depending on how far the conduct went. This is a crime, and firing isn't sufficient. Also, will they tell subsequent employers of his conduct? Or is he free to apply to other school?

Actually, charges should be filed and if convicted he may be required to be listed on a sex offender registry. Firing not nearly good enough.

Seriously. Have they filed charges? Or didn't Beavoir teach these people anything?
