| 40 yr old women, body changed after kids and I don't know how to dress anymore. And I don't have time to figure it out. I'd like to look more professional then I do. I am thinking of giving stitchfix a go, but wanted to see if anyone had any comments or alternative suggestions. My workplace is mostly business casual, with an occasional blazer for a briefing. I really need this change. Thank you! |
| Sent me nothing but Target level clothing at 5x the price. I hated it. They also sent me tons of stuff in colors that I specifically said I didn’t like. But I know others that have done it and liked it. |
| I suggest you go to Nordstrom and ask for style help. They have personal stylists that are dying to do more than just be cashiers. You can read lots of Stitchfix reviews online, they're not going to give you what you need, which is personalized style advice. |
I agree. I tried Stitchfix and never kept anything they sent. Having a Nordstrom stylist help in person is far better and much better selection. Plus they tailor, which is key to great fitting clothes. |
| I use MM LaFleur and keep things all the time. The clothes are quality and flattering. Much better than anything I find in a store. |
| I am always tempted because I like the concept that each month I will get an outfit or two and I don't have to think about it. But we have 2 women at my school who are Stitch Fix customers. Each month each of them are desperate to get rid of 1 or 2 pieces that they don't like or doesn't fit. They don't want to send the item back because then they lose the 25% discount, which makes the returned item/s a total wash. I don't want that kind of hassle. |
| I use Trunk club from Nordstrom and really like it. The stuff is nicer than stitch fix, I have the same stylist every month and when I send her a message she writes back and answers my questions. I also like that you can review the trunk before it comes and veto certain items or request a different color. |
| I've been happy with Trunk Club. |

So far, I’m happy with Stitch Fix. I don’t expect to use the 25% discount, so I don’t worry about sending things back.
My stylist is clearly paying attention to my feedback. Life is super crappy right now, so receiving a box full of surprises just for me is worth it. If you think Trunk Club is out of your budget, I would definitely try Stitch Fix for a few rounds, just to see. |
I tried Stitch Fix and didn't like it overall; I found the clothing was pretty shapeless (I work out and am a toned size 4- I don't want to show a lot of skin but also don't want to wear shapeless, loose fitting pieces either). I will say I found 2 pieces over two months that I did love though, so it wasn't all bad. Very casual though, too much for my office though might work for some. I've also used Evereve and Suitabily You... Evereve was casual like Stitchfix but the clothing was better quality (Hudson skinnies, leather look leggings that I thought I'd hate but are very wearable...). Sutably You is designed for work wear. I requested formal/professional pieces and found they are still more bus casual than I really need but if my office was a little less dressy I would have stuck with them. I had two boxes from them- the first was AMAZING. The stylist followed my style profile almost to perfection & I kept everything (20% off if you all btw!). To give you an idea of what they offer, I got: black skinny ankle pants, 2 dresses (one is a faux wrap I like but don't love, little casual for work but cute for date night, the other is a fav now- hot pink sheath that I get an insane amount of compliments on), a black 3/4 sleeve blazer (machine washable , a nice surprise!) & blush colored blouse by Nanette Lepore(sp?). Great prices, good not great quality but very pleased. 2nd box was tertrible- I got a different stylist and she must have read my "dislikes" and decided to send me a box of them. In that box: Weird casual jumpsuit in gauzy fabric - SUPER casual, cheap looking sheer lavender blouse, black shirtdress (ok but I don't like shirtdresses on me), a black totoe (also ok, nothing special), and a gray cotton tunic /T shirt that was fine but not at all anything I'd wear outside of a casual weekend). Returned everything. Sorry for long post but thought I'd give you as much detail as possible lol! I would recommend Evereve (aka Trendsend, same co) if you can go casual at work, if you need dressier &/ or are on a budget Suitably You is worth a shot - their styling fee is $20 , and my first shipment ended up being about $230 after the 20% off for keeping all of it. Great price for 5 pieces I like and have worn often. Forgot to add Suitably You's premise is that they build on prior items you purchase from them - so in theory your stylist will send pieces that will work with items they know you have. In my first shipment the pieces were very mixable and I swear I must have gotten someone else's box the 2nd shipment lol- NOTHING coordinated with prior box but it's a nice idea in theory. |
My experience too |
+2 |
I had the same experience. I had much better luck with Trunk Club by Nordstrom, but it's more expensive. |

I did it so many times.
I kept going for these reasons: -the convenience of not shopping. Either in store or online. Saved me time bc all I had to do was spend 15m typing out what I was looking for -a good handful of pieces that I LOVE that I never would have found on my own. my favorite pair of jeans was from SF 4 yard ago. Still my favorite and I can’t beat them. And my favorite necklace too. After a while, I couldn’t trust the process anymore -felt like I was spending $$ for $ quality. Or $$$ for $$ quality. Either way, I felt like the prices were just MORE. $24 for a tee isn’t terrible, but I feel like I could wait for a basic sale at jcrew and get the same thing for $12-17. Same for dresses. Spending $70, when it’s a $45 dress. They slow you to cost compare and snag a lower price if you find it elsewhere, but 1/2 the time it’s from their exclusive label and you cannot buy elsewhere. -on a similar note it was taking a good amount of my clothing budget for just like 3 items. But I want to vary out with other clothing purchases: underwear, bras, swimsuits, exercise clothing, and a graphic tee instead of 100% blouses. -felt like I wasn’t being listened to. After doing it so many times, I’m sure their file of my notes was huge, ha ha. Seems like stuff I wanted to explain was starting to get lost. For example, my own sense of coverage areas/modesty concerns were not being listened to unless I put it in writing every time. |

I agree that Stitchfix was not worth it -- I thought the clothes they sent were really cheap and unflattering. I also hated that the pieces were so disjointed I'd have to buy a ton of other clothes to make up outfits. I don't want to have to go shopping, which is the whole point!
I've done an MM Lafleur bento and loved it. I've ordered a couple of other pieces as well. I wear the Woolf jardigan all the time and would gladly pay full price again. |
