I was wondering if anyone could share their accepted child's September MAP M and R scores. I know that these days many more factors are in play, but would love to know the ballpark numbers.
Thanks!! |
| I think the CogAT results play a much higher role in selection than MAP scores. We're up-county but DC was accepted to both the MLK and Clemente programs. Map scores were low 260's for MAP-M and high 240's for MAP-R. |
| My kid was accepted to both magnets. 5th grade fall MAP-M = 246, MAP-R=252. |
Was this their 5th-grade fall scores? |
Congratulations to you and your child! Great MAP-M. |
Yes. Kid has always been a math kid and was doing Fibonacci sequences before they were cool. (ok.. still not cool but that's how DC's brain works)
|
| sigh. my kid got 280 on mapm and 248 on mapr, 99% national % and between 95-99% for mcps. straight As from a CES. 5s on parcc. Asian boy in W district. outright rejected. |
So surrounded by similar scoring cohort remaining at home MS or no? |
I'm so sorry, PP! That sounds completely discriminatory, because I KNOW there are extremely few students with 280 on their MAP-M. I have a discrimination story at the 3rd grade level for entry to a W district CES (Asian student with higher scores than mixed African-American; former rejected, latter accepted). I hope you appealed and are party to the lawsuit. |
I'm PP and this is why I suggested the CogAT is more important than the MAP scores. DC scored 99% in both National and MCPS. Had classmates at CES that were wait-listed with 98% MCPS score and others rejected below 97% MCPS. All scored 99 percentile nationally. |
Why don't you write an MPIA request for this? Ask for the range and median of MAP M and R scores for admitted students, for waitlisted students and for rejected students. You can also ask for it broken down in other ways (by sending MS, receiving MS, etc.) MCPS will have to give it to you. I would think all of that data would be part of discovery of any lawsuit also. |
Just a reminder that the applications are race blind. The process may look "unfair" from the outside, without all of the data points, but race was not known by the committee. |
What does this matter if it's not the primary criterion for acceptance into the program? Why not also ask for 40 meter dash times and how many donuts they can eat in one setting? Lawsuit? You are laughable. Stop wasting the county's time. |
There's a strong cohort at W feeders and with the enriched classes, it's like a magnet. |
Not quite, but it’s been better than we expected. |
