Most Indians Hindus I Meet Don't Realize Jesus was an Actual Person

Anonymous
This is mostly an Indian Hindu thing but they are surprised if religion comes up that Jesus was a person.

For instance someone who is s Jewish does not believe Jesus was son of God. My Jewish friends like to joke he is just a nice Jewish Boy who went into the family business.

Christians believe he is Son of God.

Most Indians/Hindus when they say they don't believe in Jesus it is almost like a Tooth Fairy or Easter Bunny thing. Granted I don't talk religion much but found it amazing that none thought he was a person who lived on Earth. In fact one or two utterly confused how could a regular man be considered a God.

Has anyone else got this reaction?

Wow OP. Not sure how you got to be the age you are without realizing that different humans have different belief systems. You should get out more.

You do realize that centuries after the fact, we cannot be sure of this?

This, we really don't know what happened.

Religion is all something we make up to give life some meaning and to let us sleep at night. None of us have any idea.

OP,

Are you cognizant of the most salient points in all major religions that are not your own?

Or do you prescribe to a Christian-centered belief system?

Look at the beam in your eye, and all that (hope you can identify where that comes from).

OP - I greatly respect all religions. But when Jesus was crucified that was a very public event that did occur. He did get documented in a census. He was a figure in history.

Not doubting other religions. Amazing that folks don't realize he was a living person. Not saying they should believe in any religious aspect of Jesus

There is ample evidence that he was a living person, but important at the time can be debated. Josephus either ignores him completely or does a small aside.

But others not knowing this? NBD. I have no idea if Hindu gods are based on real people. Are they? Mermaids are based on manatees.

I teach middle school SS in a diverse community. Many of my students are from affluent families that aren’t particularly religious. I was surprised that so many were highly knowledgeable about Greco-Roman gods, but absolutely clueless about the major figures in the three Abrahamic faiths. I would encourage non-practicing and atheist families to at least acquaint their children with what others believe as these three religion have shaped modern history and still influence their children’s lives even if the family doesn’t believe the tenets. It also serves as social lubricant and helps in that offense is less likely to happen accidentally.
I’m totally cool if your child shares what you taught your child about Mithras, but referring to Christians as cannibals is just as uncool as saying Jews killed Jesus. For two centuries, the Romans persecuted Christians based on the cannibalism claim.

Evidence is thin. At best chances are there was a character by the same name who was transformed into "miracle worker" etc by PR.

Given that I don't know anything about Hindy religion, why does this surprise anyone? Plus, he was resurrected, sure sounds like a fairly tale.

You are a MS teacher? Romans did not persecuted Christians for two centuries! Do I have to tell you the heck why? There was no Western Roman Empire that lasted two centuries, and the East one didn't last 2 centuries either.

I think it’s even questionable there was a dude named Jesus. People make up stories all of the time.

OP look at it from a historical perspective. No one of the Jewish faith at time disputed Jesus was a person. The crucification was large event with tons of witnesses. Matthew, Mark, Luke and John wrote based off eye witness accounts. The 12 apostles immediately spread out to spread the word. Even events like Sermon on the Mount widely attended.

At this point no one disputed the physical existence of Jesus,

Imagine if in 2020 in the Middle East a man declared himself the son of God and somehow got a large portion of Middle East to follow him to the point a public execution was needed. However due to the timing at moment of execution an eclipse happened in middle of day and whole skies darkened at moment of death. Then let's say followers stole the body and claimed he rose to heaven.

I am pretty sure regardless that is a huge event in history. I doubt folks would dispute the person was real.

OP -- tell us all you know about the Hindu religion. I bet I will be amazed by how little you know.
