All schools should offer an all-virtual option

Yeah? It's a pandemic and you're terrified, but you want to hang onto your charter seat? That's your priority? Come on. The better argument is that it's a pandemic and you can't have everything you want. Might have to give up a charter seat. If you're so terrified for your child's health, that should be an easy choice.

Again you seem to misunderstand everything. Intentionally? Who cares. “I should get the thing that I want” isn’t someone asking for your kids transcripts, birthright, ability to go to school, air, a new car, or a pencil. The thing people are asking for is very specific and very reasonable. A virtual option for familes who choose or need it, without losing OOB or charter spots is ideal but I will admit that in my case it doesn’t apply. Note that homeschool does not equal virtual. I bet anything dcps folds. Unless they want a riot when all the parents have kids at home for 10 days with no teacher (because too many are quarantining) and when that first wrongful death lawsuit hits from a parent whose documented requests for a virtual option went unmet.

What Becky wants is to harm the majority of students. That's really not ok.

If Becky truly wanted something that did not harm other children, she'd probably get more support. As it is, people should vehemently oppose a virtual option at all schools.

More resources could be poured into public education to allow a virtual option for all who want it, but doing it on a per school basis is too inefficient.

But you know what would happen? The virtual option would be flooded with kids who live in W 7 and 8, the same ones whose parents refused to send them to even one day of in person school last year, and many of whom disappeared entirely throughout the school year. THAT is why Bowser doesn't want to do it. These kids are the ones who need in person school far more than any others.

Omg. This REEKS of paternalism and is blatantly racist. There are plenty of families you’d like to decide for making the best decisions they can for their kids. Just because they live in a demographically low income ward theh don’t get to choose?

I said it before and I’ll say it again. Fools, assholes (now including racists and people who will name someone’s actual name and then say what she wants is to hurt kids or shut schools down). Btw one of the posters on here is a ward 5 mom who did not stop posting on every social media page (community, hers, pool, school, etc) about her positions and also kept using the “think of the poor ward 8 kids” and got her ass handed to her by just about every person of color who saw her posts.

Actually, no one should get to choose.

Making a statements based on cold data (ward 7 and 8 kids had by far the highest rates of delinquencies, ie not attending virtual at all) and survey data (wards 7 and 8 parents by far voiced more preference for virtual than parents in any other wards)

If I also say that wards 7 and 8 are shamelessly delinquent in getting vaccines and stupidly risking their and their kids’ lives as a result, is that also racist?

It's the pandemic. You have two choices. (Plus a virtual option for students who have documented needs) Sorry you can't get the exact option you want, but life isn't fair. You got what you wanted last year.

I love the part where you're threatening a riot. Oh yeah, I bet all 10 ward 3 white women will be there to start a fight. Also, you have no understanding about how that liability works.

25 percent of adults in ward 8 are vaccinated. 25 percent. that's beyond pathetic. alabama does better than that.

Like most in this town, I’m a lawyer. Try again if you think a lawsuit won’t be brought - and you do not know if it will advance until it’s entered.

And yes, riot was metaphorical.

Also, given the survey results you ro someone above cited about ward 7 and 8 having the greatest need and survey requests for remote, you really think it’s just white women? Don’t try to generalize. The women I’ve seen insisting in a return in person (think of the poor kids! Closing schools is racist!) are all using the argument to further their position without caring a whit for what the black families she’s trying to speak for, want.

It’s how we liberals embarrass ourselves. Talk less. Assume less. Have some humility. And don’t make choices for others.

clearly a bad lawyer. how many wrongful death lawsuits have there been for kids who got the flu in school?

PG just announced that it is enrolling 12,000 kids in all-virtual.

I guess Becky is going to gamble with her kids' education.

Omg the “plan” she just posted and is advocating (publicly) for is ridiculous. Love the mention how there are only 100 parents supporting her “cause” lolol
