2021 VA Governors race

Republican state legislators and governors ate showing what they would do — from abortion to covid public safety to craven voting restrictions. Youngkin has made clear he supports these efforts and trump. He is dangerous for Virginia and I hope everyone realizes that.

+1 and hopefully everyone voting in Virginia knows that the margins in the legislature are razor thin. Whatever your local grievance that the governor doesn’t even control is, it’s not worth risking reproductive freedom when the governorship and both state house and senate could all flip.

Margins in the legislature are razor thin. It is a thin margin between a slight Democrat majority and an overwhelming one where they can pass whatever they want. Look at the results from 2019. It could very easily have been a 27-13 D Senate.

Republican states have the lowest unemployment and highest job growth. For some reason people keep leaving Democrat run areas to Republican run one. The Uhaul from Dallas to San Francisco is cheap, while you have to pay a lot to move out of California.

The top ten states for job growth in the last year were Hawaii, Vermont, Nevada, Massachusetts, Maine, Rhode Island, New York and New Jersey.

Ha ha. How so? Texas is not Virginia.
More fear mongering?

Well I’m a woman. And a lawyer. And was leaning towards holding my nose and voting for Youngkin because of schools and teachers unions. Not any more.

But, I never thought SCOTUS would let Texas get away with their law. And yes, I’m afraid. And sad. And angry. No rape of incest excepts? Six weeks? Very limited health of the mother exceptions? And the middle of the night shadow docket crap is scary AF, especially since DD heads to college next year. My beautiful living, breathing daughter is not less important than an embryo the size of a pomegranate seed. And I sat that as someone who had pregnancy losses. No comparison. VA cannot be allowed to go the way of TX.

Texas Rs are the dog that caught the car. Now live with it.

Ah yes but the so called Democrats want to send a message to everyone about their discontent about CRT, opening schools, and TJ admissions!

I kean seriously there's even some analysts saying women in Texas may have trouble getting ectopic pregnancies treated under this law. That's a death sentence.

I had an ectopic pregnancy rupture 12 hours into being passed around an ER. It was awful— to the point that 10 years later I still have some PTSD symptoms. So much pain and blood. I thought I was going to die. And, it mpaired my fertility going forward. It takes a sick f**k to do this to women.

You are putting a lot of power in the hands of a governor that he has not authority to have. Just because the Democratic president thinks he can unilaterally issue unconstitutional EOs, that doesn't mean that a governor will do the same.

In reality, what you are doing is fear mongering.

Well, they're executive orders (or actions), so by construction they're unilateral. And governors do indeed have power to direct a legislative agenda, and wield veto power. Youngkin may not be able to decree that all abortion clinics in Virginia be permanently shuttered, but you better believe he'll veto any efforts to further entrench abortion rights. That's not fearmongering - that's reality.

+1. We need to codify Roe v Wade ASAP.

9 of the top 12 states for GDP per capita are also blue. I pulled 2019, for the person lying about job growth and then arguing “COVID artifact”

Right! You were going to vote for Youngkin

The State Senate and House of Delegates will likely remain under D control. A Republican governor will keep them from going out of control, like they have recently with decriminalized marijuana and repeal of capital punishment (among other things) Youngkin wouldn’t be able to wave a wand and make abortions go away

Keep up. This thread is full of people who claim to be Democrats who are voting for Youngkin.

And yes, the Virginia general assembly has a Democratic majority but the margins are slim (55-45 and 21-18) and either or both could flip.
