We don't know that the mom died, just that she wasn't in the picture.

I can't wait til they tell us s what happened to Randall's birth mom

It hit me that Jack is really the hub of the show, despite his early death. His absence plays as big a role in the contemporary scenes as his presence in the flashbacks. I wonder if we'll get a storyline that shows Randall begin to search for his birth father partly in reaction to Jack's death.

Me too!!!!
Ugh I don't cry much during this show. But the tears....
How every day is precious. How we shouldn't wait for tomorrow. William & Randall, giving up his time because he knows his William is chasing joy in every moment. And jack, same thing. Just trying to live--and sadly he doesn't even know that his life will be cut short. And Kate and her anger. It bothered me at first how she wouldn't dig deep at that pace--just skeptically brushing it off. But she pushed and found something underneath. Hate that camp guy though, almost sexual harassment-y.

Her primal scream was really something.

I was so taken by that scene, the flashbacks, her growing rage, and then the realization that no, she is not ok. Brilliant acting.

I liked this last episode, but found myself increasingly annoyed at the triple b-day party. The acting was just so over-the-top by Jack and Rebecca. Waaaay too perky to be believable.

I did feel terrible for Kate when all her friends went into Kevin's b-day room. She experienced such rejection as a child from her peers.

I thought Toby was awesome when he helped Kevin see clearly who his true love actually was. That was great.

And finally - will Jack PLEASE wash and cut his hair. And get rid of the mustache. Gah!!

Haha, I agree- I think my own dad held on to his 'stache for-freaking-ever and still it was gone by around 92ish I think? I am also an August 1980 baby, so I love revisting all my mom's fashion and stuff in the flashback

She died, likely from drug use or possibly childbirth. William dropped Randall at the firehouse after her death. That story is told and gone. It does make me think that Randall is at least a few days older than his siblings since it's unlikely he was dropped off the day he was born.

It was unrealistic that they would have all three parties AT THE SAME TIME
That's the dumbestthing on earth. In real life, I would have done one from 10-12, one from 1-3, and one from 4-6. Of course if you have different themes and different groups, the kids are going to go to the group/person they like the best.

LOL. That is what I was thinking. And - it was only the two adults and the three parties. It wasn't until it got to the end where Kevin announced his love for Kate's best friend that I got why they had the three parties together. Just for that set up.

Remember, this show is only an 18 episode season, and there are not many episodes left. February is also a sweeps month for the TV networks.

Yeah it was sort of one big party separated into cliques, with three cakes. No sense.

Bad timing. Episode had to be in February for sweeps.

Just sat down to watch yesterday's episode and realized a new episode didn't air.
