Focus on Woodward - Looks like the Magnet Arts option is coming into focus

I, for one, think this is great news... we need something like Duke Ellington in MoCo. The link with Strathmore is also an interesting use of our cultural resources. I know it's still a wish and a prayer, but it is promising (even though its a good 7-9 years away since it looks like Northwood will be there for duration).

That's awesome, but it's six years away. My kids will be almost out of HS by then. Too bad.. my DD would've loved a HS arts magnet.

This would be an amazing addition to MCPS. It would really be a jewel of the county. So many talented kids here ... it would be nice to give them an opportunity to shine.

Current third graders will be the first class if they stay on track to open in 2025

I’m glad it will be 7-9 more years, so Einstein can keep being Einstein while my kids are still there. Einstein is a countywide visual arts magnet.

Oops, that's 2nd Graders.

Me again. Guess what, there is already a HS arts magnet.

The theater and music programs are so strong — top notch — at Tilden MS and Walter Johnson and that could lay the groundwork for this new magnet. Imagine what these kids could do with more resources! This idea makes so much sense.

Visual arts (Einstein) and performing arts (new Woodward) are two different things.

Where have you received this information that Woodward will open in 2025?

Because Northwood is scheduled to occupy the building for 2 years, beginning in Fall 2023. Assuming Northwood's new building is ready for them to move back in 2025, that is the earliest that Woodward could reopen as a high school.

It's not truly accessible to everyone county-wide because bus service is only available to students in the DCC. There are also only 25-30 spots a year, as per the application process form. And it's limited to visual arts, and doesn't include other arts like music and drama. I don't think adding Woodward as an arts magnet does anything to take away from Einstein. Why can't we make the pie bigger so more kids can have a slice?

Woodward is slated for a full rev/ex as well. So if Northwood moves back in 2025, then it will be another two years or so before Woodward can open. I wonder how many portables they will cram in at WJ....

They are doing the rev/ex first, 2020-2023, then Northwood 2023-2025 and Woodward opens Fall 2025.

Northwood would use the newly renovated Woodward, i.e., after renovation, not before.
