I read the whole article and saw nothing that said performing arts. It just says arts.

Agreed besides the VAC is located at Einstein because it’s in the middle of the county. They need to take Einstein and expand the VAPA program. Einstein has the experience and the creative student body, just expand that.

Einstein is already overcapacity; they can't expand anything.

Einstein is located in Kensington adjacent to North Bethesda which is about a 10-minute drive from Woodward.

Kensington near North Bethesda where Einstein is located is hardly the middle of the county.

Einstein is due North of Chevy Chase just on the other side of the beltway.

Yeah. The middle of the county is roughly the Shady Grove metro station.

Einstein isn’t audition base like Lagrudia Arts (Fame School). Only the VAC. Einstein has the reputation already why not make it an arts magnet high school and open it to the whole country? Does it make sense to waste resources on another arts magnet program down the street? Mcps already claim they don’t have enough funds to support the arts as it is.

No, it really doesn't make sense to put a similar program at school right next door to the existing one.

WJ has so many kids involved in performing arts, it might as well be a performing arts high school. Theater, Chorus, Orchestra, Band are all amazing with hundreds of kids participating. They will have a strong base of talented kids to work with and add more through auditions. Why not have VAC at Einstein and performing arts at Woodward (in partnership with Strathmore)?

This does not look good for Einstein.

It certainly looks like the arts magnet at Einstein might move to Woodward. It makes zero sense to have two arts magnets so close to each other plus Einstein is overcrowded. The Einstein neighborhoods that are so excited about possibly getting rezoned are not the ones with low SES/low scoring kids. Einstein could be left much poorer, without its magnet, and big score drop.

Why don’t they expand VAC at Einstein? It seems like an amazing program. Didn’t really know much about it until now, but will look into it for my DD who loves art.

What information are you basing this statement on?

Also about half the kids from Einstein now will end up at Woodward given its proximity and the overcrowding. Perhaps, the county can add another STEM/IB magnet at Einstein. It's not like they'd have any trouble filling those seats.

The article and the thread.

Do you really think that MCPS is going to fund having an arts magnet at Einstein AND Woodward??? This would never fly.

Even if it did keep two with Woodward's being larger/county-wide and Einstein's staying the same size/limited to DCC -where do you think the most kids talented are going to apply? Einstein would lose the best kids.

Why are folks so sure that MCPS wouldn't keep a portfolio-based VISUAL arts program at Einstein and create an audition-based PERFORMING arts magnet at Woodward?

To the question of why not use Einstein for performing arts, I'm guessing the answer lies in the specialized facilities needed for a performing arts magnet. At a minimum, multiple dance studios, sound-proofed rehearsal rooms for individuals and chamber groups, and significantly upgraded performance spaces.

If they are gutting/building out Woodward already, it makes sense to build to spec.

Why? Because it's fun to make stuff up and start rumors, probably.
