| Anyone had success with just doing this workout in addition to other good habits (good nutrition, sleep, etc)? That is, no other exercise except maybe walking? I've got about 10 pounds to lose and can't seem to stick to other exercise programs. |

I've done it, and its a good workout! Builds heart health and muscle.
Is it going to help you lose weight? No, in general exercise doesn't. Diet helps you lose weight. Exercise helps you live longer and move better. |
OP here. Right, agree. Stopping my night time snacking/alcohol and cutting sweets will help me lose weight (I otherwise eat pretty clean and balanced meals). I guess my real question is, will the NY Times workout help me get toned? My arms specifically need some work! |

DH does it. I think it's better for men, or maybe I'm just too wimpy for it. It's a lot of upper arm stuff and plank (I can't really do a plank anymore with dr).
I just found this that has some substitute exercises. Maybe I could do a modified form of it. https://www.nytimes.com/2018/06/05/well/move/05EASIER-7MINUTE.html |

The problem with the 7-minute workout is that in order not to injure yourself, you need to warm up and progress into the harder exercises (like the pushup). I think it's probably a mistake to try to cram in bodyweight strengthing exercises with cardio intervals, if you haven't been previously active. Also, if you don't *enjoy* it, then you're not realistically going to add it to your routine. I enjoy jogging or even going to the gym to do intervals on the elliptical catching up on the New Yorker ... but I'm not sure I'd enjoy doing 7 frantic minutes.
That said, I do think bodyweight exercises are great, and I do them! I just don't expect them to serve all my fitness needs. They're for core strengthening, and just to put a little movement into the start of my day. |
| I did the 7 minute workout this morning. I didn't have a lot of time (still trying to get used to daylight savings) but wanted to do something. It was a pretty good workout for 7 minutes, but I don't think I could lose weight or see significant toning doing this alone, even with a balanced diet. |
