Question about Politics Forum

Anonymous
Hi Jeff,

I frequent the politics forum and lately it seems as if there a LOT more Trump supporters than there have been in the past. Has there been an up-tick or am I imagining things?

Also, there seems to be one rabid poster who attacks you repeatedly. Maybe there is more than one? Again, just curious as to whether or not I am imagining things.

Thanks

I don't know if there are more Trump supporters or if fewer liberals are participating in the forum these days. It is nearly impossible to have a normal discussion with the Trumpsters and I think that discourages users from using the forum.

Yes, there is a troll who attacks me all day long most days. He must not have a job given the amount of time he had to post mean things about me, my wife, and kids. He takes great pride in having played lacrosse in college, so I think I will call him Laxbrotroll.

There are a handful of other posters who also enjoy criticizing me, but not as bad as Laxbrotroll.

Are the Tennessee trolls still present?

I only know about one poster from Tennessee and he posts incessantly, but I wouldn't call him a troll.

Oh I thought he had a posse from Fedex or some organization.

It's possible, but if so, they don't cause any trouble.

Ok. And, yes, troll isn’t the right term.

Haha! Laxbrotroll!

Thanks for answering.

They have made it impossible to have a discussion. See, for instance, here. https://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/210/788725.page

one keeps posting that I am sock pupetting (which, as you can tell, I am not) and one posts incurrate info about child and their privacy rights in a public space

It totally shuts down any real discussion

It’s a really useless forum now. There are two or three Trump supporters who post incessantly and they aren’t obsessed with illegal immigration and generalizing every evil thing as what liberals want. It’s getting old.

I just went to take a look at that thread and decided to remove it completely. While the Covington supporters were making a mess of things, I have to say that liberal attacking the kids were actually worse. Come on folks, there is no need to curse high school kids. Let's do better than that.

There's been a huge uptick due to the fact that Trump will soon be indicted. They are trying to stop it!

Given your point that many liberals seem to be abandoning the politics forum because of how impossible it is to have a real discussion there, would you consider testing a user registration reqt for politics for a brief period (maybe one month). It might improve the situation.

I know this has been requested many times by others and you’re hesitant. But in this thread - https://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/666044.page#11474821 - you acknowledged that as circumstances change, you might be inclined to try our a user registration requirement. You also wrote that user registration has largely eliminated problems in the explicit forum. I wonder if you might see the same benefits in politics. Would you consider trying it for a one-month period? Then users could give feedback, and you could better assess which approach poses fewer headaches.

I wonder if it would be feasible or reasonable to try a subform in Political that is login only. That way you could see if people would chose it preferentially and how it would work.
