Why do people asked me where I am from if they don't believe me?

Anonymous
I am and sick and tired people asking where I am from, because when I tell them I am Hispanic they don't believe me. Eh why are you going to ask if you not going to believe it. Are all Hispanic suppose to look the same? If that is the case then all white people are Racist Trump supporters.

If you dated a Hispanic and he/she/it didn't look like a Hispanic do you think they are lying? What is so wrong with being darker Hispanic? FYI I am also educated not all Hispanics are uneducated

I don't believe is racism I just believe its dumb.

Yes, people who grow up in isolation are often ignorant of the world.

Hispanic is being vague. If they ask you where you are from, why don't you answer more specifically. Of course, no reason you need to

It's just people making conversation. I'm in the exact same boat as you and I don't get offended by it. "You're lying" is just "oh wow that's not what I would have guessed."

I'm not saying I think you are dumb or are not Hispanic, but why is this in the Relationship forum?

I live in an area that is 75% Hispanic and they ask each other where they are from. It’s just conversation.

You should start saying
“I’m from Michigan.”
Or maybe “I’m from China.”

Then when they accuse you of lying you can say “Yeah, you’re right, that’s a lie.” Then walk away and find better friends (or dates!)

Well, there are stereotypes. I have features considered typical of a certain country and, funny enough I come from a totally different area. People sometimes don’t believe me and start talking with me in the language of the country I am supposedly from. I got used to it and just laugh.

Wrf. Just tell them what county and city you’re originally from. bFD

Why do you answer in some coy riddle. Just answer, this is a very typical question that everyone gets asked, especially in America where you might be born one place, rises another, schooled in a third, and then work in a fourth, etc. Namesakes only help so much and even then that’s just one side or not helpful at all.

You mean you run into people who only know Mexicans or Central Americans?
Not that most Puerto ricans, Dominicans or Haitians are black? But not Nubian black or Ethiopian black or Ugandan black.
Ok

When people ask me where I am from I don't say I'm AA, I say I'm from New York. Why not just tell people where you were born rather than your ethnicity?
Anonymous
Q: Wow, I don't think I can say your last name. where are you from?

A: I'm white. Shut up. Your question bothers me.

I am a white Caucasian and everywhere I travel people think I am from their country. Some people just have less distinguishing looks. I apparently look like many backgrounds.

All the 23 and me and ancestry DNA tests have made people more curious about others ethnic backgrounds.

Honestly, I get why you're offended, but you also sound sound kind of dumb.

Why are you telling them you're Hispanic? Context matters.
