Why not play them on grade? If you are going to force Aug player to play up, why not force July holdbacks to play down? Wouldn't u18/u19 be too late for recruiting? Are these July players doomed in terms of recruiting? What about an Aug kid who went to school on time but is on an advanced track, where in the future could graduate a year early. Should they play up 2 age groups to match their advanced status in school? |
You are interpreting the rules the way they want them implemented. Leagues and clubs don't force kids up and grades aren't in the rules. That's your thing to bulldoze for your DD. You aren't doing your DD a favor by trying to protect her from competition, she will have to overcome obstacles without you removing all of them. FYI, the lower bound on tires is needed for safety just like the 12 month window. See Colorado Rapids about safety over 12 months in an age group. You are in the denial phase. Few sports have kids play up. |
Need? BY is 2 grades, works. And college coaches said they don't care about your age group. You just have to be the best player you can. |
You lose one argument to a bunch of people and then bounce back to square one with trying to create a rule to make youth soccer fit what you want to help your personal situation but create big problems for kids that aren't yours. It isn't going to happen. It's a zero sum game and you are just trying to be selfish. Rinse and repeat. If you have nothing new to add, you can just not post. You aren't raising awareness. Anybody with sense isn't reading hundreds of pages to learn anything here. Sorry, leagues announced 8/1 - 7/31 in the summer except MLSN1, local teams announced no forcing up in winter posts and made it clear in the announcements that they limit playing up. It's over. |
Its because leagues and clubs dont want to create a situation that rewards parents that purposely hold their kid back in school so they can be the oldest on the team. Other sports basketball / lacrosse dont have a strong club structure which means they allow hold backs to play on the grade team players define. Surprise surprise at around 6th grade parents start holding their kids back 1 or even 2 years so they can be the star. In basketball it gets ridiculous when there's a player thats 6 feet tall and can dunk playing against kids 5'6". When this happens what do you think happens to participation? The answer is it goes down exponentially because nobody wants to pay to play a sport that you have no chance at winning. (unless you hold your kid back) For soccer clubs want players paying all the way through high school. If they allowed hold backs you'd quickly see parents holding back their kid so they can be the star. You'd also quickly see participation drop right around 6th grade. Which is usually when holding kids back for an advantage in sports occurs. |
Because leagues allow playing up "8/1 and under" is the same thing as "8/1-7/31". The 7/31 date is unnecessary. Also 7/31 creates the false perception that there is a lower bound for the eligibility window when it doesnt exist because players can play up. You've taken the unnecessary 7/31 date and ran with it to the point where you believe only players in a 12 month window should be rostered on a team. Which is clearly not true because all leagues allow playing up. If leagues wanted a strict 12 month eligibility window they wouldnt allow playing up. Its unfortunate that the 7/31 date exists because your interpretation is not correct. Which is causing you to spread incorrect information to others. |
Exactly correct 👌 Age guy has made it his quest in life to defend the poor players that might be younger than a 12 month 8/1-7/31 eligibility window. When in reality there is no 12 month eligibility window because players are allowed play up. Each competition level is simply 8/1 and younger. Its parents responsibility to put their kid on the correct grade in school team. If they dont it will make college recruiting 100x harder for their kid. |
This is gibberish. |
Hes saying that if leagues allow players to play up, which they do. The lower bounds of SY 8/1-7/31 is meaningless and unnecessary. 7/31 isnt needed. |
Pointless semantics gibberish. Top clubs want to really limit kids playing up as they said in their posts and have acted over the years. Other sports aren't having a masses of kids play up and schools aren't having masses of kids up a grade. |
No, it's gibberish. |
I've been noticing a trend and its not good. Whenever you get backed into a corner you attack back usually without any logic or defined proof. This won’t work long term. As more people get up to speed on the nuances of SY you'll end up looking even more ridiculous than you already do. |
First parents and clubs responsibility is to keep kids safe. Colorado Rapids points out danger in playing up when not ready. College recruiting path is non existent for those playing up when not ready and it increases quiting. College recruiting path doesn't matter because colleges said they don't care what age group you are in, they evaluate all HS, transfers and foreign kids regardless of team. |
There is no "playing up" 8/1 and younger are eligible per level in club. Parents can choose which level they try out for. Levels happen to be mostly aligned with grade in school so this is what most parents will choose to tryout for. Except for you. You'll choose to try out on the younger grade in school level. When this happens coaches will inform you that your kid didnt make the team but they have roster spots available on your kids grade in school B team. |
No need to keep posting gibberish that multiple people have poked holes through. Rules set. Top teams set. |
