No, it's gibberish. |
I've been noticing a trend and its not good. Whenever you get backed into a corner you attack back usually without any logic or defined proof. This won’t work long term. As more people get up to speed on the nuances of SY you'll end up looking even more ridiculous than you already do. |
First parents and clubs responsibility is to keep kids safe. Colorado Rapids points out danger in playing up when not ready. College recruiting path is non existent for those playing up when not ready and it increases quiting. College recruiting path doesn't matter because colleges said they don't care what age group you are in, they evaluate all HS, transfers and foreign kids regardless of team. |
There is no "playing up" 8/1 and younger are eligible per level in club. Parents can choose which level they try out for. Levels happen to be mostly aligned with grade in school so this is what most parents will choose to tryout for. Except for you. You'll choose to try out on the younger grade in school level. When this happens coaches will inform you that your kid didnt make the team but they have roster spots available on your kids grade in school B team. |
No need to keep posting gibberish that multiple people have poked holes through. Rules set. Top teams set. |
What exactly is "set"? 8/1 and younger is the same thing as 8/1-7/31 when leagues allow players to play up. Have any rosters for teams this fall been posted? If not nothing is "set". If they have please post a link so we can see teams with players all the same graduating year aka grade in school. |
Coaches do not care what grade you are in. They want the best kids they can get on their team within the rules (which are 8/1-7/31). That's it. That is what they will all end up doing. Can you imagine a coach at tryouts pondering: "This player is excellent and would be perfect for my team and is within the age group. But, she skipped third grade so I can't put her on my team now because of made up reasons! Oh well!"? It is a bummer that your daughter may get pushed down to the 2nd or 3rd team Delusional August Guy. I'm sure she will take some lessons from it if you let her. |
Well managed clubs will be monitoring and planning with coaches which players will be rostered on each team. Club interests come before coaches. This is why Aug birthday players will be grouped by grade |
Saying there is no playing up is an exaggeration. Some clubs have a few of their best kids play up an age group but it is pretty rare and often the kid reverts to their correct age group. The small clubs often have playing up but that is more to fill holes on teams. |
There needs to be some context defined. In BY Aug-Dec Birthdays are playing up a grade When BY changes to SY Aug-Dec players will be playing with their grade or they will be playing down a grade. It depends on when their school cutoff happens. How weird would it be for Aug birthdays to go from playing on a team with players a grade older than they are to a team with players a grade below them in school. See how this is an issue? The easy solution is for Aug birthdays to play up on their correct grade in school team if needed. The traditional form of playing up would be playing on a team with players a grade older than you are. Once we switch to SY this fall this is what people will think of when discussing playjng up. |
So why not have that SY play on the second team if SY is so important,? |
I dont know what you're asking so I'll just make a guess. Clubs want all levels of player playing on the correct grade in school A B C etc team. This is because its better for players when they get to recruiting years. Its better for the club because they avoid 8th grade teams with 9th grade players who do high school soccer for 4 months out of the year. And in general its easier for clubs to manage everyone when players are grouped by grade. (Think homecoming, or a school trip that only one grade participates in, etc) |
| My daughter’s ECNL club in NorCal (Mustangs) director is not forcing players down regardless of birth month or school grade and they can stay on current teams. Once tryouts are over it will be up to parents and coaches to decide. |
Everywhere I read except what age guy posts here is saying that what you've described is what clubs are communicating to parents. Which makes sense. Why piss off a paying customer just because Leagues want to group players a certain way. In 2-3 years all the former BY Aug-Dec players that choose to keep playing up after switching to SY will have moved on. Also most parents will by default choose to play on the correct grade in school team for college recruiting. So its an issue that solves itself. The only oddball is the parents that want to play down even though their kid would be better off playjng on a correct grade in school team. |
Unwarranted speculation. 2 "will" wish castings. Clubs already made announcements, not forced up in DMV. |
