They’re ranked quite low in the state of Florida. Wonder what the coaching and talent level is for Florida’s top U18 teams.

That's right, just park the bus and hope to get 1-0 win on a counter.

Having a compact defense isn’t parking the bus.

Agree, both with the compact center and that forcing things outside is not “parking the bus.” Every playing style has a weakness, no exclusion (or magic) for the Spanish style.

Armchair QB thread?

If your kid isn't playing and you are watching complete matches of youth soccer, you are either unemployed or should be unemployed. Get a life.

1. Work on the several projects I'm juggling.

2. Watch the rest of a youth soccer game to see if the style of play looks vastly different than the 10 minutes I've seen, all so I can be better prepared for a message board discussion in which at least some people (and I have no idea who) are just seeing what they want to see.

Apologies to all, but I think I'll take #1.

You forgot:

3. Post on a thread about a club that I have no vested interest with.

Watching full youth soccer games does not have to be nefarious. Some people have big passion for the game. Xavi was teased by his Barca teammates, because watched everything from Champions league games, to third division games, to youth academy games. RSD is employed as a soccer journalist. He does not have enough time to watch more than 10 minutes, because he has other projects to juggle. This is a fair excuse; people get busy. However, the excuse does not change the fact that his negative assessment is based on a tiny 10 minute sample. It would be like me watching 10 minute game of a Vienna team during a preseason tournament and then publicly criticizing that team or club based on that short snippet.

You'd have to have some weird obsession with knocking down a club you have absolutely nothing to do with, to do something like that.

What is most surprising about that game is the lack of intensity, with hardly any defensive pressure.
Otherwise, cannot say that I could see anything special about Barca style of play.
Must have looked at the wrong 10 minutes...

NP who enjoys watching random youth soccer games. I have watched the first 20 minutes, and will definitely say Barca looked more comfortable and impressive in minutes 10-20 than they did up to minute 10. I think both teams are trying to play possession soccer, but Barca has a larger number of skilled players, and their defenders were much more composed in the bit I saw (the Flames have had a lot of good tackles though). Both teams had a whole lot of errant passes. This is not a scintillating game so far. Can someone post the minutes of the video we should watch if we want to be dazzled or appalled by anything in particular? And at what minute do the Flames score? It was a nice sequence that almost led to a Barca goal around minute 15.

Flames score at 1:00:10

The yellow card, slide tackle from behind, by flames was at 52:12

That was basically my impression, too. I didn't see a vast difference in styles. Each team tries to connect passes and occasionally succeeds. Toward the end, Barca may have turned a little panicky -- and if you're down 1-0 in the final minutes, you're going to get more direct.

I agree with this 100%. This is exactly what I saw as well. There were some minor differences in how passes were connected, the flames prefer to play it forward, but I did see them play it backwards when it made sense. I'd say they played a more aggressive brand of the same general style.

Florida teams, even their lower ranking ones, are quite good. I saw at CASL with my oldest a Florida classic team beat a pretty solid elite team from VA. I think people are really nitpicking the Barca team for some reason I can't fathom.
