Dragging their heels seems far more accurate than leading the way, but I guess the Fairfax NAACP finally gave them cover to do something that more conservative voices had been advocating for years. |
and yet most of the Republican candidates couldn't be bothered to tell us their position on the Equitable Access to Literacy Plan. |
You have no right to talk AT ALL about disability issues if you didn’t fill out that questionnaire. And yet these candidates like Harry Jackson and Tony Sabio and Paul Bartkowski will continue to pander and talk about special ed issues when they couldn’t even be bothered to fill out the PTA questionnaire. |
Spare us. The Democrats have shown they excel at filling out questionnaires before elections and then doing whatever they want after elections. |
ONLY because the NAACP lobbied them to do so - and saying no to the NAACP would have made them look "racist." |
True - the point, however, is that the only reason the SB adopted phonics is because the NAACP asked them to. When other parents and teachers begged them, they were ignored. |
THIS ^^ EXACTLY. What a joke. |
"Equitable Access to Literacy"?? Maybe YOU should tell us WTH that is supposed to mean, for starters. We'll wait. |
Do you have any examples of Dems going back on what they wrote in response on questionnaires? |
Youngkin himself supported legislation for the Virginia Literacy Act. FCPS was required to develop the Equitable Acess to Literacy plan in order to align and follow Youngkin's guidance. FCPS simply added the word "equitable" into their program plan. You obviously have no idea what you're talking about and are only spouting partisan hate and misinformation. Go actually read about the VLA and EAL plan then come back and discuss. |
Redesigning the literacy standards to science of reading and teaching phonics, supporting education to make early interventions with students who need some extra support reading. |
I was part of the coalition lobbying with Louise Lucas and Carrie Coyner for the VLA. And we went back to Richmond this year to get the rest of it done. FCPS has been a leader on this and gone beyond the state requirements, which haven’t taken effect yet since the legislation had delayed enactment. And yet most of these Republicans didn’t seem to care enough to fill out this questionnaire. And those who did came off as completely oblivious to the needs facing our community, or even worse they clearly rushed the entire questionnaire and paid no attention at all to the questions. |
But of course they did! ![]() https://www.doe.virginia.gov/teaching-learning-assessment/k-12-standards-instruction/english-reading-literacy/literacy/virginia-literacy-act Now here’s FCPS’s word salad version - chock full of their favorite buzzwords, “systemic inequities.” The original VA version was just fine as it was. FCPS is such a caricature at this point. https://www.fcps.edu/academics/equitable-access-literacy-plan |
Ok - you just said all that needs to be said in one sentence. FCPS thinks the more words and trendy phrases they can use, the better. https://www.fcps.edu/academics/equitable-access-literacy-plan |
