OP. I certainly am talking about Saundra. She had a fine opening statement where she talked about how she’s an Independent and former Democrat and we need to get politics out of schools.

Then for every question asked she just didn’t actually go into any details with her answer.

I was actually considering voting for her before I went to the forum. Now I’m most definitely not.

I also researched her more and read her extremely disappointing answers to the Special Education PTA questionnaire where she didn’t actually answer any of the questions. My kids have 504/IEPs as did I in school so I am in tune with special ed and disability issues. She seemed very rushed and not at all concerned about our community. Please share how has the 100% Democrat FCPS School Board helped or benefited your 504 Plan/IEP kids, particularly with issues of special education and disability during the past four years. And, how consistent (or inconsistent) has that been with what the Democrat endorsed candidates filled out on the Special Education PTA questionnaire?

This current school board is redesigning literacy standards to align with the science of reading. Parents of students with dyslexia has been advocating for this for years.

You mean the same Fairfax NAACP that requested whole word first, realized it was a disaster, and changed positions? They should not get credit for a solution to a problem that they had a part in creating.

True - the point, however, is that the only reason the SB adopted phonics is because the NAACP asked them to. When other parents and teachers begged them, they were ignored.

“I’m an independent” isn’t a good enough argument for me to vote for someone. I ended up voting straight Dem because they actually have detailed policies on their websites and all answered the questionnaires with detail.

I voted for Moon, Davis, and Hussein because disrupting the dysfunctional echo chamber otherwise known as the FCPS School Board seemed like a very good idea.

My community has been lied to repeatedly by Democrats on the School Board, including in response to questionnaires completed in 2019, so forgive me for not weighting these “detailed” answers too heavily. They don’t hold themselves accountable to their past promises at all, so it’s time we did.

Youngkin himself supported legislation for the Virginia Literacy Act. FCPS was required to develop the Equitable Acess to Literacy plan in order to align and follow Youngkin's guidance. FCPS simply added the word "equitable" into their program plan.

You obviously have no idea what you're talking about and are only spouting partisan hate and misinformation. Go actually read about the VLA and EAL plan then come back and discuss.

I was part of the coalition lobbying with Louise Lucas and Carrie Coyner for the VLA. And we went back to Richmond this year to get the rest of it done.

FCPS has been a leader on this and gone beyond the state requirements, which haven’t taken effect yet since the legislation had delayed enactment.

And yet most of these Republicans didn’t seem to care enough to fill out this questionnaire. And those who did came off as completely oblivious to the needs facing our community, or even worse they clearly rushed the entire questionnaire and paid no attention at all to the questions.

I also researched her more and read her extremely disappointing answers to the Special Education PTA questionnaire where she didn’t actually answer any of the questions. My kids have 504/IEPs as did I in school so I am in tune with special ed and disability issues. She seemed very rushed and not at all concerned about our community. Please share how has the 100% Democrat FCPS School Board helped or benefited your 504 Plan/IEP kids, particularly with issues of special education and disability during the past four years. And, how consistent (or inconsistent) has that been with what the Democrat endorsed candidates filled out on the Special Education PTA questionnaire?

This current school board is redesigning literacy standards to align with the science of reading. Parents of students with dyslexia has been advocating for this for years.

Youngkin himself supported legislation for the Virginia Literacy Act. FCPS was required to develop the Equitable Acess to Literacy plan in order to align and follow Youngkin's guidance. FCPS simply added the word "equitable" into their program plan.

But of course they did! And still, it adds no meaning whatsoever. What was wrong with the “Virginia Literacy Act”? Notice how there’s zero mention of “equity,” and yet anyone reading it can understand 100% that it applies to ALL kids.

Now here’s FCPS’s word salad version - chock full of their favorite buzzwords, “systemic inequities.” The original VA version was just fine as it was. FCPS is such a caricature at this point.

OP. I certainly am talking about Saundra. She had a fine opening statement where she talked about how she’s an Independent and former Democrat and we need to get politics out of schools.

Then for every question asked she just didn’t actually go into any details with her answer.

Redesigning the literacy standards to science of reading and teaching phonics, supporting education to make early interventions with students who need some extra support reading.

Ok - you just said all that needs to be said in one sentence. FCPS thinks the more words and trendy phrases they can use, the better.
