New bike lane on Old Georgetown Rd in Bethesda

Can't speak to the "just off of OGR" pp, but I live off of Greentree, and can attest to the photo above being the typical view on the road hours in the AM and PM, weekdays, and clogged weekend too.

I think so too. I’ve posted a few times as someone who lives right off OGR. I’m on the road multiple times a day and I just haven’t seen major backups. Every time I saw that, the person accused me of not living in the neighborhood, though. I assume this is one of my neighbors and I’m really pretty curious which it is. I hope they don’t tear them out because it makes me happy to see my neighbors riding their bikes around and to tell my kids to ride to the Y so I don’t have to drive them, but also because if they tear it all up it will cause major delays again.

You “live right off OGR” haven’t seen anything?

It’s probably a good thing that you don’t drive.

Its so clear this picture was taken as a light changed from red to green, as evidenced by the cars in the foreground NOT bumper to bumper. I love this thread so much some of you are wildly upset by bikes

Cool story.

We’ve seen HS kids we know riding (we assume) to WJ in the morning. I feel safer knowing they are in the bike lane.

You do realize that nearly 7,000 people have signed a petition to remove these lanes. Further, since there are only literally a handful of cyclists daily, if you indeed live in the area and use the lanes it is more likely that it is just one person advocating for them.

What is bizarre is that you seem highly uninformed and it’s not clear what you are arguing about, because even the foremost regional cycling advocates are calling for these disastrous bike lanes to be changed.

My only point to you is that you need to get over it and direct your advocacy to your own community. Not sure why you care so much about Bethesda. It’s weird.

Maybe they are riding their bikes now because thanks to these bike lanes their school bus is stuck in traffic and they don’t want to be late for school.

Traffic during rush hour - did you send this picture to the news yet? Probably a hot commodity

That’s the whole point moron. The SHA projections for impacts on RUSH HOUR traffic were way off and delays that it has caused are unacceptable. Is there soup where your brain is supposed to be?

These pictures are hilarious - now do ones from before the bike lanes were put in. As someone who commutes daily on OGR, I can tell you that they were no different at these locations.

Y’all need to find better pictures. I see traffic (appropriately) coming to a stop at a yellow light.

Yes, bikes can be a great, speedy, and efficient transportation option. Active transportation in the morning before school also helps with learning. I'm really glad the WJ kids have a safe option for biking along Old Georgetown to school now. Plenty of WJ kids bike to school and from school, and I know of several who have been hit in the past. The bike lanes and safe sidewalks will also be great when the Woodward building is done and the Northwood kids come for 2 years, and then later when Woodward itself opens, of course.
