Surviving R. Kelly

Anyone else tune in last night? I had planned to only watch a little but got totally sucked in. What an absolutely disgusting guy!!!!

I grew up to his music and as a friend of mine said, "Great, the soundtrack of our youth (college years) was about screwing underage girls.

I watched it and will watch the remaining 4 episodes. I've followed the R.Kelly saga for years since Jim DeRogatis' first articles in the Chicago Sun-Times, his follow-up investigations in The Village Voice and on BuzzFeed. This quote of his has stuck with me for years: "The saddest fact I've learned is nobody matters less to our society than young black women."

I was shocked by the marriage with Aaliyah, and that no one was talking about his grooming of her. Most eye-opening was all the stories of him taking advantage of poor families, by promising to help careers, but really as a pretext to molest their children, which came out in the trial. I've even seen the tape - it's horrifying. I was a fan of his music for years but as they said in the documentary last night - the words; he was hiding in plain sight.

He's a monster. I hope this is the end of his 30 year serial rape and abuse spree.

I didn't watch it but did I see that #SurvivingRKelly was trending on Twitter this morning. I read some of the articles and comments about the documentary and I gotta say based on the feedback I don't want to watch it.

I'm not an R.Kelly fan so its not that I'm averse to hearing the harsh truths about him from the victims themselves. No, I don't want to watch it because I have daughters and from what people have been saying about the show I can see me getting way too worked up and wind up kicking the TV. The thought of somebody messing with my daughters or any young girls period triggers a "Hulk-like" rage in me.

I know R.Kelly has never been convicted of anything and I'm not advocating vigilantism - but I swear there is no way that after 20 years of preying on teenage girls that this serial child molester should still have all of his teeth and be walking around without a permanent limp. I'm literally shocked that somebody's dad, uncle, brother, cousin - whoever - hasn't put R.Kelly in the hospital for a significant amount of time.

I watched it and was sick to my stomach. My heart breaks for all of these girls. I am also disappointed in all the parents and adults that were around and didn't do more. I loved his more mainstream songs but I can't listen anymore knowing all of the disgusting vile things he did. The video with the young teen was disgusting and I can't believe he was acquitted.

I haven't seen the show yet though I do intend to watch, but I have to ask if anything about the African american community is mentioned? I read an interesting article during the early "me too" days that black women are more hesitant to accuse black men because of the historically unfair treatment of black men in the justice system. Does any of that factor in here?

I don't understand how so many people are just now coming to the realization that he's a creep. He married Aaliyah when she was 15 and he was 27. Her debut album was titled "Age Ain't Nothing But A Number" and he's staring at her on the cover like a pedophile. Not to mention "My mind is telling me no, but my body is telling me yes..."

There was a video and trial about him peeing and having sex with an underage girl yet everyone had collective amnesia a year later when "Step in the Name of Love" and "In the Closet" came out.

He's always been a creep.

Black women are the lowest on the totem pole, that’s why this never took off. No one listened to Cosby until he had white victims.

I am having Big Talks about this guy and his tactics with my 15 yr old daughter.

Because these families wanted their daughters to be a STAR! He preyed on families that cared more about fame than their daughters. He’s the same as all of the Disney pedos.

It’s really surprising how R. Kelly’s career has not been as poorly affected by his indecent behavior as many other celebrities have.

Is it because his talent & music (smoke + mirrors) matters the most here since he IS extremely gifted in this one area??!

People still talk about MJ like he's this amazing talent. Same thing. Any talent is overshadowed by pedophilia.

Look at how long Cosby/Weinstein/Lauer got away with what they were was doing. All were openly known in their industries for their behavior.

$$ talks.

DP. I still hold out that MJ was not a proven pedophile. I realize I may be deluding myself but I've followed the release of FBI materials since his death and stand by my beliefs:

R. Kelly is a whole different level of a monster in plain sight.

I had no plans to watch. To be honest I did not think Lifetime would do a good job. But I got sucked in, and plan to watch it all .

What Disney pedos? I must have missed that.
