Does she want the Apple Watch for fitness related reasons or for other capabilities? For fitness, you could point out that the Fitbit is better (I'm sure you could find some reviews that justify that point of view). If for other, then you are in trouble.

I don’t have either, but gather that the Apple Watch can do much more than a Fitbit. My youngest son had a Fitbit for a while and it stopped working. Surprisingly, the store took it back with the receipt, which we had saved, and the clerk said they had received lots of complaints about the Fitbit.
If you have the money, I would go buy the watch she wants and return the Fitbit later this week. If she wants something solely for fitness purposes, then the Fitbit would be fine. |
| you know, she wants an apple watch, OP. get her the apple watch. don't get her the fitbit even though you think it would be better, get her what she wants. |
| Why didn’t you get her what she wants |
|
Yikes. An IOU for the Apple Watch would be a much better idea.
It’s like wanting a dog and getting a cat. |

I think your reason matters.
Why aren't you getting her the watch? If the reason is something like "I (DH) myself dislike Apple products because..." that's a lousy reason. Maybe the product is awful to you but she asked for it. Will she interpret the Fitbit as a veiled way of saying you want her to exercise more? Do you think that she "will just use the watch like its a Fitbit anyway" and that's why you're getting the Fitbit? if so--that's pretty condescending. Is the price differential big enough that you can argue the watch is genuinely out of your range? If so you and she need to communicate better about budgets for gifts. Did you already buy the Fitbit before she mentioned the watch? So you dont want the hassle of taking back the Fitbit? That's slack, if that's the case. I'd return the Fitbit and get what she wants. |

I want an Apple Watch so I can see text messages on my wrist instead of needing to always have my phone with me. It would let me know the time and if there was an emergency or issue without being constantly tied to my cell phone.
If I was given a Fitbit instead, I would immediately return it for what I actually wanted. |
| Well we all know that you won't be getting what you want for Christmas! |
|
Op, Costco is open, there is a pink one for 125, I think.
Go get what she wants. |

Ugh, my parents used to do this to me (get me a variation of what I actually asked for). SO RUDE!!!!
Either get her what she asked for or get her something completely different. |
It didn’t work for me because I couldn’t even leave my phone on my work desk and go in a meeting on the same floor, the phone is needed close by. |
