i bought her fitbit the other day when she mentioned in passing that she didn't have an activity tracker. but this morning when i was wrapping the gift it just hit me that she had mentioned before she wanted apple watch.
the watch is also like five times more expensive... |
you're just messing with me right? |
| You can give her the Fitbit but offer to return it if she wants it for more than activity tracking (which most people who want the Apple Watch do.) They're expensive, but I love mine. I thought I'd NEVER get a watch and always made fun of people who have them, then they came out with the watch that has the EKG app and I was interested enough to buy one. I love it and use it way more than I ever thought and it has really really improved my fitness and overall movement. She's likely to return the Fitbit so you might as well do the leg work for her and be the hero of the day. |
Your first reason should not get you into trouble if you just explain you bought the Fitbit but then remembered too late she might prefer and Apple watch, and you offer to exchange it. The second reason makes you sound cheap. I wouldn't bring it up unless purchasing the Apple watch will actually make a dent in your savings, or your wife is likely to agree that the extra cost is not worth it. I personally think they are overpriced but would have no difficulty actually affording one for DH if that was what he really wanted. |
If I was OP, what I would do is use first reason and not mention second reason at all. If your family can afford the Apple Watch, you can tell her that you will not be offended at all if she returns the FitBit and uses the refund to get an Apple Watch. |
| I’ve had both and my Apple Watch blows the Fitbit away. I don’t think the Fitbit is more accurate at all. I like that I can track specific workouts and exercise types with an Apple Watch. Fitbit is so step-focused—it gives the illusion that you’ve barely done anything even if you’ve done a great, hard workout that just doesn’t involved a lot of stepping around, like weights, yoga, Pilates, etc. I have the LTE set up but even if you have your phone near you it’s nice to not have to always pull it out of your purse or pocket to check a text. It also just looks sleeker and cool. There’s no competition in my mind. |
| Very frustrating, OP. Please never do this. If you can’t afford what she asked for, time for a talk. |
well? everywhere else it's $230 the cheapest series 3 model. |
| Wtf? She asked for an Apple Watch, not a Fitbit. Get her what she asked for. |
| It sounds like she might have been happy with either. |
This makes a difference. I would just tell her that you knew she wanted a tracker and didn’t realize until later that she probably had the apple in mind. And here’s the receipt and we can pick up and apple watch at an after-Christmas sale if you prefer that. |
| It's like you bought her the knock off version because she wasn't worth the extra $50. I'm getting the Apple Watch and I'd be pissed to receive the Fitbit |
| I had had fitbits, and have apple watches. It is not comparable. |
| I have a Fitbit and I’m not happy with it. I should have bought an Apple Watch. |
