I met her for the first time yesterday. I felt like she was trying too hard. She charmed my dad talking sports. She bonded with my mom over some food network show. She played with the kids and dog. She brought cookies instead of a bottle of wine like a normal person. They were supposed to be shaped like ornaments , but looked like balloons. Aside from that she wasn’t very chatty. I mean she was nice enough but not bubbly. His previous girlfriends have been bubbly.
My brother is in awe of her every other word was about something she does or is interested in. It was like he was her PR agent. He told us all about her job , travels and hobbies. What was really annoying was she kept calling him Ari. He’s had a name for 32 years and it’s not Ari or close to it. DH says I’m being super critical because I was close to his ex. He also said I need to get over it because he’s likely going to marry her, I don’t see that, but whatever. |
| You sound awful. You can not like your brothers gf, but it sounds like you’re pisses that her “trying to hard” was in fact trying just right for everyone but you. Of course your brother was bugging her up if you’re so hyper critical. Why does his gf need to be bubbly? If he doesn’t object to her calling Ng him by a different nickname, why should you? It’s not even like you’re the parent who gave him his name; wtf is it to you? |
| you sound like a b OP. |
| What is wrong with you? She sounds perfectly fine. |
| My SILs are similar to you- really awful, jealous, insecure, spiteful people. They cannot stand that I have individual relationships with their parents and we have adult conversations. Their pettiness and neediness is suffocating. |
| Your husband is right. Chill out. |
| Are you losing your brother? Are you a troll? Is she smarter than you? She sounds much smarter than you. Clearly when IQ was distributed all went to your brother, and you lost that game. Must be a troll. |
| I think what's really bothering you is that your husband likes her, too. |
| Is she the sitter? |
| Give it time. I disliked my brother’s new gf once for some similar stupid reasons. However, loved her the second time I saw her. Apparently I was PMSing the first time and my reaction had nothing to do with her. We are not the best of friends but cordial and I find her to be a nice person. |
| How strange hat your brother would seek out someone that makes him happy, instead of someone that makes you happy. Some people are so weirdly selfish. |
| One of your complaints is her cookies look like balloons instead of ornaments? Poor woman. |
|
You sound pretty awful, OP. You're not dating your brother - you have no reason to dislike her.
Your brother's girlfriend doesn't sound unkind, or mean, or like she has any emotional/anger issues. She seems rather thoughtful, actually. Those are the things that matter in life. |
Not really a complaint. That’s just what she told everyone over and over again every time someone had a cookie. Everyone else found it endearing. |
No apparently she’s a NICU nurse which is awesome, but not after the fifth time he said it. |
