Non-tech stocking stuffers for 12 year old boy?

Anonymous
Guardian requested no tech for Christmas. We would like to provide 4-5 small items. Here’s what I have so far.
Giant ball of rubber bands
Playing Cards
Tach pen which writes upside down and has a flashlight
Am I clueless thinking these are appealing? What else would work?

Do you know his gloves size? My 13 loves wearing gloves.
knit cap (I would not get red or blue because some schools don't allow those colors)
Cool sunglasses.

Tic Tacs (I don't know why my kids are so in to them, but my friend said her kids are too and she also puts them in their stockings)

knit cap

Depending on price point, a card game like exploding kittens or the Oregon Trail.

A Christmas ornament

It is tech related (not tech) - they have Fortnight figures (saw them at target)

My 12 YO likes the Funko POP figures

A flashlight

A winter hat with led lights in it - my kids walk home from school and it is pretty dark around 5:30

Why wouldn't a school allow kids to wear red or blue?

Those are very standard wardrobe staple colors.

I have one boy on either end (11 & 13)

Rubix cube
Flashlight
Pez dispenser
Wooden puzzles
Multi color pen
Origami paper/book (they have star wars paper and outerspace/galaxy paper that is really cool)

Because these are gang colors and schools ban them so that kids are not targeted by mistake.
It sounds like something like an Angel tree that OP is doing, so I would be extra careful since she may not know what school the kid goes to.

I am in the bay area.

Believe it or not, my DS loves bath bombs. Not that he would want that info to get out.

We’re fortnight figures in the toy section? If not, where were they in Target?

Those kind of gangs are not a thing here.

Unfortunately they are. MS-13’s color is blue. The rival color is red. MS-13 gang members attacked someone in Wheaton Park in the last couple of years just because the person was wearing a bit of red. It is absolutely crazy and senseless but it happens. I deal with this for my job.

I am the one who originally posted about not giving red or blue hats. I am so, so sorry to hear this. I just think that that it takes a bit of extra research for people doing the Angel tree type thing (selecting gifts for children you don't know) but it is better OP has these issues in the back of her mind and can look up the area. It would be awful to give a kid a warm hat, and they need a warm hat, but the kid be uncomfortable wearing it because it has a meaning that puts him at risk in his community.

We do a backpack collection through dh's company each year and they ask for no red or blue backpacks.
