"It is honestly shocking how much Fox News' rhetoric about immigrants mirrors Nazi propaganda"

It is honestly shocking how much Fox News' rhetoric about immigrants mirrors Nazi propaganda:

- they're bringing disease
- they're foreign agents
- they're criminals
- they're going to take power here

It's genocidal propaganda being delivered under the guise of a news network.

This is 100% true.

Tucker Carlson echoes white supremacist talking points.

Laura Ingraham echoes white supremacist talking points.

People at rightwing hate sites think Tucker and Ingraham are on their side. That's bad.

------------

Rupert Murdoch did the same thing in the UK and Australia - use white identity politics to get votes to enrich himself. He doesn't care about how much damage he does to the country, as long as he can influence politicians and put money in his own pocket.

Meanwhile, the biggest predictor of heavy watching of Fox News is low levels of education.

In my research too, Fox News viewers scored the lowest of over 30 popular news sources (though Fox viewers did at least score better than those saying they didn't follow the news). The chart’s horizontal black lines with tick marks indicate the margins of statistical error. Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, a news satire, had the best-informed viewers.

The Fox News effect is a correlation. It doesn't prove that watching Fox News causes people to be ill-informed.
Causes are much trickier to establish. I will give my guesses (along with the warning that they're only guesses). The first thing to realize is that every news medium has its own audience demographics. It's no secret to advertisers that the average Fox News viewer has less formal education and income than the average New York Times reader.

Why are we allowing a foreign billionaire to brainwash 30% of America's population, especially the low-educated, to enrich himself???

Why does America have so many millions of illegal immigrants?

I don’t get it. Never seen this and have lived in four other countries, none of which have this.

Oy.
Yup, leading historians have said the same thing.

But a new essay in the New York Review of Books pointing out “troubling similarities” between the 1930s and today is different: It’s written by Christopher Browning, one of America’s most eminent and well-respected historians of the Holocaust. In it, he warns that democracy here is under serious threat, in the way that German democracy was prior to Hitler’s rise — and really could topple altogether.

Browning’s essay covers many topics, ranging from Trump’s “America First” foreign policy — a phrase most closely associated with a group of prewar American Nazi sympathizers — to the role of Fox News as a kind of privatized state propaganda office. But the most interesting part of his argument is the comparison between Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Paul von Hindenburg, the German leader who ultimately handed power over to Hitler.

The rightwingers here will probably complain about this historian being quoted on Vox, because they don't like having to deal with real news from real journalists talking about facts. ¯\_(?)_/¯

The rightwingers here will hate this, but the original tweet is from Carlos Maza, who has been a great journalist exposing how the rightwing propaganda machine works.
(You gotta watch his video on Kellyanne Conway's interview response methods - it's great).

But for people here who want to learn about communication and the news, check this. Maza has this video, about how Fox uses dogwhistles and imagery to engender fear and hate in your grandfather.

Although there is that pesky historical detail that the Nazis undertook a program to actually kill all the Jews.

Not the day Hitler was elected. Meanwhile, there are kids in cages being sexually abused. So there is that.

And, like the citizen Nazis excused the pograms and kristalnacht, the goppers excuse that.

They really are the same.

Other countries have guest worker programs. We don't and this is what happens in the vacuum.

Agree. Totally chilling!

Here's an idea DP.

Go to your local library.

Go to the "history" section.

Then, go to the "American History" section.

Find yourself a basic textbook on American History. Let's say at the sixth grade level. Read the first two chapters on how our country was founded.

Then, skip to the chapter on our pre-industrial revolution. Read that.

Then go to the index and look for "Staten Island." Go to those pages. Read them.

Return to this forum once you've completed all of these steps.

It's honestly shocking to me how obsessed liberals are with Fox News. I mean, you people are so repulsed by anything having to do with that network. Here's a though... try watching CNN or MSNBC with as much disdain as you do Fox. You might actually notice that they're ALL biased.
