This color is touted as the pefect "greige." I got a sample from Lowe's and painted it on our wall and it looks extremely dark, much darker than in photos. If you have this color, did you lighten it or was it not so dark upon painting the entire room?

Not dark at all. However, way to be wayyyy behind the trend are you sure you want to do this? |
YES, and doesn't look like I'm behind at all by all the latest HGTV episodes as I'm on maternity leave and have been watching continuously and on Houzz and Pinterest. I've had different color rooms for years and I'm sick of having to coordinate to the room paint rather than having a neutral background that I can use as a clean slate whenever I want to update other colors like throw pillows, etc. We are renovating and knocking out walls to create an open first floor plan and couldn't be more excited about it, and I want a single neutral greige for the first floor. |
I have it in my whole house. Generally I like but to be honest it is a little too light for me. Most of the time. I am not a big accent wAll person but might add one to my living room just to add some richness of color to the room. We have a coastal look and it goes well with most of the decor. |
Depends on your room and the natural light. Try the next color lighter on the same chip card as Repose. |
You can go 25 percent lighter. Don't listen to the negative nellies. I too like the neutral walls....and recently painted main rooms light gray. Any paint color will look different at different times of the day depending on the natural lighting. Of course, we are at a low light time of year right now, so that may be affecting your impression. |
Thanks... It's possible the low light us tgrowone off. I want our first floor to be light and bright. We are in a rowhouse so sunlight only from the front and back, but also will have new recessed lighting that makes it all much brighter than before. I'm also looking at Icy Avalanche as it seems a little softer even. I want a true light greige that doesn't look to gray or too beige. We will have a new light grey sectional sofa and I don't want it to be an exact match of the wall color, I want there to be some contrast. |
We recently repainted the open area of our first floor. I tried a dozen SW “greiges” and ended up going on the tan side of greige. I’ve never loved gray in home decor because it felt too cool to me. We decided on sand beach and Barcelona beige and are very satisfied. But as everyone one says, sampling the paint was key and fairly shocking to me (the differences in different light, different rooms, different times of day, etc). |
Have you seen the decorator blog — one seems to specialize comparing greiges. Kylie interiors? Not sure, but it’s been recommended here a few times. |
As a designer I can say this is 100% true, but it is also important to do what makes you happy. Grey is extremely trendy and that trend is in the rear view mirror, but if somebody likes it that doesnt matter. Repose Grey js actually pretty light. I'd also definitely call it cool. It is not a warm greige at all. Itjid very common as far as greys are concerned and I'd say it is a safe choice that you'll see in every home painted in 2017/early 2018. |
+1 Lighting makes a HUGE difference. Try more greiges, OP. |
OP here - I've also tried Accessible Beige (too brown?), Glacier stream (too washed out grey?), Basalt Powder (a very light beige which I did like, but thought might be too light), Icy Avalanche (also like but maybe still too grey?) Contractor uses Sherwin Williams paint, so have been trying to stick to their palette.. though I didn't realize there was a store on Capitol Hill and had been going to Lowe's to look at colors, but Lowe's has some different swatches than Sherwin Williams store. |
OP again -oops I meant Agreeable Grey not Accessible Beige above, thought Agreeable Grey was a bit brown |
OP don't go over the ledge here. They're probably all fine.
Do make sure whatever you choose pairs nicely with your trim and cabinet colors. |
Our cabinets are Ikea grimslov off white (but barely noticeable as off white in bright lights), trim is white. Having a baby while renovating a house put my nesting into overdrive, so yes, I'm definitely bordering a ledge on this! ![]() |
