DC commission just passed resolution 6:0 to designate the street in front of the Saudi Arabian Embassy to the United States - Jamal Khashoggi way.
https://twitter.com/NihadAwad/status/1067959500689281024 Thank you D.C. City Council for doing this. Even if the fed govt won't do anything about this murder, at least the local city can. |
| Excellent |
| a tiny bit of justice. |
| It's something, at least. |
| strange to do this for a non citizen |
you must not be from around here. plenty of non-citizens honored in prominent places (think about that the next time you go to Lafayette Square or L'enfant Plaza) |
+1. |
And he had an intimate connection with the DC area since he worked for the Washington Post. Citizenship does not determine your worth PP. |
Interesting examples. Both of those guys fought in the American Revolutionary War. What did this guy do besides write a few articles for the Post? Honestly, how many people even heard of him before he was killed? I can't figure out why this single incident is such a significant a U.S. foreign policy issue. |
You can't figure out why our President (who calls journalists the enemy of the people and has disregarded the US Intelligence community's assessment of the murder), defending the murder of a journalist (who was an American resident) who was tortured to death at the behest of the Saudi crown prince (one of our biggest allies in the Middle East) is a significant U.S. foreign policy issue? You're not very bright. |
Remember Nelson Mandela? Many countries did this for the South African Embassies. |
Politicized street-naming games are not new in Washington, with local leaders previously targeting Russia and China’s embassies. February of this year... https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/dc-politics/street-signs-outside-russian-embassy-in-washington-now-honor-slain-dissident/2018/02/27/159de03e-1bdd-11e8-b2d9-08e748f892c0_story.html?utm_term=.37caa8b55529
And this from 2014 https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/trafficandcommuting/members-of-congress-press-dc-to-rename-street-by-chinese-embassy-after-jailed-activist/2014/05/31/705e3d00-e844-11e3-8f90-73e071f3d637_story.html?utm_term=.96148e8bfc19 |
Jamal Khashoggi was a journalist for the Washington Post - an American publication that often criticizes the President. Trump has often said he would personally punch journalists or otherwise joked about journalists getting attacked. If a journalist working for an American news organization can get murdered with the presidents blessing - is anyone safe? |
x100 |
The President "defended" his murder? Care to provide a citation for that? |
