| Bullis, Prep, Landon, and Gonzaga are generally pulling from the same pool of local talent. SJC went another route with their stellar 22 class, looking both in and outside the DMV for hungry atypical private school kids with a chip on their shoulder. Whether this character carries over to future classes or if SJC is hoping this recent success will help them compete for the same local private pool will be interesting to see. |
| Continued Yorktown mentions are lame, that guy needs to drop it. The publics are not not in the same league (literally and figuratively). |
Interesting observation about SJC on where they have been pulling kids in from and it’s nit Annapolis but even parts of southern Calvert County MD. I do wonder if more local lacrosse players with high aspirations will be drawn to SJC given the National recent success. The school is not hiding they will offer athletic scholarships for “student athletes” they really want to land. Prep is interesting as 20% of the student population is boarding so why not use it to their advantage. Landons trajectory is on the way up based on how much younger talent they have in their 2025 and 2026 classes. The coaching staff for the most part is the same as it has been for the past decade. Bullis will be interesting as the sports obsessed headmaster is now gone and the financial aid “well” has suddenly started to dry up. We will know in another year or two which direction the school is heading. As long as Bellistri remains at Bullis they should continue to remain very competitive in the region, he is an excellent coach. Gonzaga is in a tough spot. The school benefitted immensely with a down economy and became the hot place to be. Gonzaga has also historically been able attract talented players from all over the beltway and even distant counties such as Loudon or Anne Arundel to name a few). With PVIs new campus, one has to wonder if kids from western Fairfax or eastern Loudon county want to continue to make the trek into Eye street. With the rise of Spalding and Saint Mary’s re-cementing it’s status as an Annapolis power, again I wonder if families living in western Anne Arundel county will head east and go to Saint Mary’s or Spalding. (Throw in Dave Mitchell now at DeMatha, that is now another school potentially stealing market share from Gonzaga). In other words, Gonzaga is now is really boxed in with alternative HS Catholic programs who are investing big in lacrosse. |
“Atypical private school kids”. YOU have no idea what you are talking about. Many were considering - Gonzaga - Landon - Bullis - St. Mary’s - Spalding Southern MD Boys decided to go to SJC because the school is committed to student athletes and Coach Speaks. Compared to the other schools it was an easy decision. |
| SJC may be drawing the athletes buy buyer beware - the academics there are NOT comparable to the others. So if your amazing athlete gets injured and college play is no longer an option your former student athlete could likely be stuck with subpar college choices based on the academic profile of SJC. |
Back to that BS. Lol |
You do realize that good students at public schools get into any college the want right? |

Shhhhhhhhhhhhh

Not all kids are Ivy League students. Not all lacrosse players are D1 athletes. If a student is good at lacrosse SJC is fine for those families as lacrosse will help get into a better school. MI MD Lehigh will all provide great college experiences |
Kids will be roughing it for sure. IAC parents are funny. Keep stroking that big check. |
| I am sure SJC students attend colleges that are the best fit for each student. Congratulations. Also hopefully, folks can agree that the best lacrosse colleges are some of the best colleges in the country. Unfortunately, SJC lacrosse players do not go to these elite schools. Navy, Air Force, Lehigh, Mount St Marys, Syracuse, and Jacksonville are not Elite colleges. (Navy, Air Force, Lehigh are good schools though) SJC does not get players to Elite schools. Ivy, Duke etc (nothing wrong with that, just an observation). |
This says it all. SJC is a top academic DMV private school. It’s not your father’s SJC. You can’t argue it when you see this list. |
| For lacrosse recruiting HS does not get kids into colleges at all the clubs do. A great club player from any HS with a 4.0 and great test scores can go anywhere. |
Again you don’t know what your talking about. Many of those players could have gone Ivy but decided to go elsewhere. |
Why so hostile? There was more than a hint of admiration there for how Wes built this team, not a knock. I guess that’s the chip that still remains despite the team’s success. At least for one or more of the parents. |
