Lots at stake. If GA can hold the last of their big clubs and begin to pull from ECNL they are in good shape. If GA clubs continue to get poached… |
A certain Atlanta based powerhouse, Tophat, has their boys in ECNL...... |
All of this starts with MLSN decisions and trickles down from there. Clubs that get a MSLN tier 1 badge will do whatever is needed on the girls side to accommodate it. If that means they have to switch to GA so be it. MSLN tier 1 is the prize. |
Tricky situation in Atlanta. This club, a founding member of both the GAL and DPL, benefits from top-tier resources provided by GA, supporting two teams in the league. While having the boys in ECNL may help, what happens if MLS Next comes calling? |
Same with Concorde Fire, who have at least 2 boys teams in the Top 20 in the nation |
There's a lot of history between Top Hat and ECNL, ECNL is like the GF that feels denied after the DA folded. |
|
In the south region, ECNL is better than the MLSN-non academy teams.
Gwinnett Soccer, NASA TopHat, Concorde Fire are all class clubs on the boys side. |
Same with NEFC.. the day both clubs join ECNL (never will), ECNL can claim full dominance of the youth soccer on the girls side. |
| Hard to blame both clubs for sticking to their guns though. |
| Lots going on behind the scenes. . . |
No need to move to MLSN unless they are wanting to play at MLSN Fest or GA cup. They cater to the girls side, so doubt they budge. |
Tophat (and it's parents) have lobbied for years to get (back) into ECNL. It would seem like a no brainer for ECNL, Boys are excellent in ECNL Boys, Girls are by far the best in the GA and have proven themselves in every platform they have been in (ECNL, DA, GA, etc). |
Deserved for sure. But if you look at the location of another ECNL club in the area, it’s almost certain that, that may be the reason for the denial of entry into ECNL. Why would you give competitive advantage to a club down the street from you? |
|
So many ECNL hats unable to see beyond their own backyard.
Why wouldn't Top Hat boys not want to go to MLSN? |
ECNL Boys is stronger than MLS Next in that area (it is admittedly an uncommon thing, but its the reality there) |
