People keep posting D1 commits like they are universally great - and that is so far from the truth. For example, there’s not enough scholarship money in the world to convince me to send my kid to Liberty. There are some D1 opportunities that are just awful.

So instead of getting indoctrinated by the right you want your daughter indoctrinated by the wacko left?

Understand this is hard for this message board to hear, but only 10 percent of the girls and 8 percent of the boys that play in high school ever get a chance at D1, and these percentages have dipped in COVID due to 5th years and the portal. To argue over ideology or whatever is ridiculous. Do we not think this isn't going on in their HS? They're chasing a dream and honestly we need more of that these days.

For boys it is more like 3% which is less than half of what you claimed. A little higher but not much for girls:

https://www.ncaa.org/sports/2015/3/2/estimated-probability-of-competing-in-college-athletics.aspx

It seems higher as such a high percent of players come from a small pool of club teams.

Very very true. Plus most lax committs don’t get $$$. If your kids goal is to play D1 lax regardless of where, you need to have a very serious chat with her about what college is actually about.

re don't get money...that is not entirely true. They rarely give out full scholarships, but there is money. My daughter has a 30% scholarship to play at a school she loves. When "cost to attend" is around 65k, 30% off per year is real money...at least to our family.

Okay but I hope it’s a good college because she isn’t going to be playing lax after college for her lifetime career. $20,000/year isnt worth it if she isn’t getting a decent education at a respectable school.

No sh** Sherlock, but it matters to those that can't afford it otherwise. I find it ironic/sad that posters on this board just assume we can all pay 50-80k per year. To save 80k over four years is real money to us, as I said. The private school ethos pops it's ugly head up again...

Oh...and define "good" college? What the hell does that even mean? Ivy or bust?? No state schools?? So damn subjective...how bout where your daughter is happy as the only lens you should look through...?

Maybe that’s how you do it or what you have been taught, but many women kick a$$ in school, then get a law or MBA or MD and become successful professionals in their own right. It’s is sad that you haven’t modeled this for your daughter. I have for mine and she is well on her way. Working hard on her own success both on lax field and in her classes at her excellent college. The fact that you would write this on a girls’ lax thread is misogynistic and frankly, disgusting. Girls and women don’t need a man or marriage to be rich and successful. Please vacate the Stone Age and come to 2022.

"We" ie women (or not a misogynist)...and way to turn it around! Jumping from ripping on anyone who has to take economics into a school choice decision for their daughter ie only attend "respectable" schools to making it like you are the victim here. Read the string, stupid.

OMG the “string” (WTF?) is so far over your head. You called “Chevy Chase rich lady” stupid when you aren’t even in the same socio-economic universe. Self-awareness is helpful PP. Go take a long hard look in a mirror.

New poster here...so you are saying socio-ecomic class dictates who can call someone stupid? Or all rich people arent capable of being stupid? That's a new one on me cause I know plenty of rich people that are complete idiots (some being former presidents even...)

I send my kids to the local publics because they are good schools, have a ton of parental involvement (I.e. overwatch), are very diverse in a good way(lots of hospitals and unis nearby with faculty kids) and are involved in the community. I went to private schools in this town and they are nothing special- very parochial in nature same people never leaving their comfort zone or dogmatic zealots.
I’ve found that the class-conscience people that prop up some of these private schools around here never even went private themselves. They are from small backwaters that have this idealic vision of class and strive to gain it thru school choice of their children. It’s so obvious.
