Baltimore Sun Endorses Hogan

Wow.

http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/opinion/editorial/bs-ed-1024-hogan-endorsement-20181022-story.html

He has made good to focus on business issues, seeking reviews of Maryland’s regulatory environment and, laudably, working to eliminate the collateral consequences of incarceration that hinder job and entrepreneurial prospects for ex-offenders. We have long argued for the importance of a viable two-party system in Maryland, and he has provided it largely without the kind of partisan acrimony that’s now ubiquitous in Washington (and was in Annapolis the last time a Republican was governor). We saw how Mr. Hogan dealt with a crisis after the 2015 unrest in Baltimore, and his successful battle with cancer revealed a human side that we and millions of others could identify with.

God bless.

There are a few of you who keep falsely accusing Hogan of racism. He is not racist. He has a black Lt. Governor. He has an Asian wife.

He has said repeatedly that he is focusing on MD politics and staying out of national politics. All of the poor examples people have been posting about him being racist are about how he did not try to take a stance on national politics.

Hogan has a double digit lead with less than two weeks to the election and Jealous is out of money. Give it up. This contrived argument is not true and is not going to blindly convince uncommitted voters to vote for Jealous.

The Sun endorsed Anthony Brown four years ago.

The Sun is one of the most liberal newspapers in America. Endorsing a Republican is no easy thing for them to do. Anyone who's grown up reading the Sun knows this. I wouldn't be surprised if the last time the Sun endorsed a Republican for the governorship was in the 1950s....

You're simply pissed off because they took a long, hard look at Jealous and finally decided they couldn't do it. And it has absolutely nothing to do with skin colors involved. Jealous is just not a valid candidate.

NP here. Wow, never saw this coming, but good for the Sun for endorsing a candidate whom they see is the best for the job, regardless of political party.

Exactly. It’s on the Maryland Democrats that they could not field a decent, competent alternative to Hogan.

It speaks volumes that both the Washington post and Baltimore son have endorsed Governor Hogan.

This! Seriously, the Democrats have just gone off the rails. And, Jealous was the best they could come up with?

Glad to see that the Sun didn't just go along with liberal/conservative thought lines.

"Democrats have just gone off the rails"

Cardin says we should try to help the migrant caravan. Seriously? Most of the undocumented migrants end up in Montgomery County, and MoCo wants to use our tax money on lawyers for them. This just means more of our taxes get siphoned from schools and other county programs to pay for it.

And Cardin wants to send our money to help them come????? I thought Cardin was a shoe in, but he's gone off the rails as well.

This is my concern with the democrats at the national level. They need to put up a viable candidate to run against Trump in 2020. My fear is they'll screw it up and put up an ultra-progressive candidate. It will take a centrist to win.

Heck, maybe they should put up Hogan, except he's Republican

NP. I'm a Democrat who is voting for Hogan. I can see beyond party lines, and he's done a great job.

That said, the Democrats knew no candidate was going to unseat Hogan, so they did put up anyone who had a serious shot. They'll do that next time around. No use throwing away a good candidate/tons of money on a locked-in election.

Rs need a challenger to Trump as well. I'd rather have Hogan than Trump. Maybe Hogan should run for POTUS. But, the nationalists, ie Trumpsters, would never vote for Hogan.

It's really a sad situation when someone thinks like this. We have so many poor and struggling already here in this country, citizens, legal immigrants and illegal immigrants. We need to devote our resources to those who are living in this country. We have homeless and jobless here in Maryland that need the help like a solid meal and a warm place to sleep or assistance in finding jobs. We have some resources, but not enough for all of our homeless and jobless. And Cardin wants us to spend tax payer money on foreigners in another country who's sole goal is to advance on the US border to violate our immigration laws and put more drain on our public resources. While I have a lot of sympathy for the struggles that are driving the caravan to seek out somewhere better than where they left, their welfare is NOT our problem. Our impoverished residents in this country and in this state should be our priority, not Central American refugees trying to enter our country illegally.

Aren't they planning to reach the border and apply for asylum? If they wanted to enter illegaly, wouldn't it be a bit conspicuous to try and sneak over the border with thousands of other people?
