Cardin says we should try to help the migrant caravan. Seriously? Most of the undocumented migrants end up in Montgomery County, and MoCo wants to use our tax money on lawyers for them. This just means more of our taxes get siphoned from schools and other county programs to pay for it.

And Cardin wants to send our money to help them come????? I thought Cardin was a shoe in, but he's gone off the rails as well.

It's really a sad situation when someone thinks like this. We have so many poor and struggling already here in this country, citizens, legal immigrants and illegal immigrants. We need to devote our resources to those who are living in this country. We have homeless and jobless here in Maryland that need the help like a solid meal and a warm place to sleep or assistance in finding jobs. We have some resources, but not enough for all of our homeless and jobless. And Cardin wants us to spend tax payer money on foreigners in another country who's sole goal is to advance on the US border to violate our immigration laws and put more drain on our public resources. While I have a lot of sympathy for the struggles that are driving the caravan to seek out somewhere better than where they left, their welfare is NOT our problem. Our impoverished residents in this country and in this state should be our priority, not Central American refugees trying to enter our country illegally.

Aren't they planning to reach the border and apply for asylum? If they wanted to enter illegaly, wouldn't it be a bit conspicuous to try and sneak over the border with thousands of other people?

Even so, we definitely do not need to spend money even humanitarian aid on them when we have poor and homeless here in the US that need our help. Essentially you are saying that the poor and desperate in Central American countries are more deserving of our help that US citizens and residents. I hate this attitude that prioritizes the rest of the world to our own citizens and residents.

I'm not saying that at all. I'm saying let them apply for asylum and go through the process. We have quotas and criteria in place for asylum applications, so let's follow those as we have been.

The Sun endorsed Anthony Brown four years ago.

The Sun is one of the most liberal newspapers in America. Endorsing a Republican is no easy thing for them to do. Anyone who's grown up reading the Sun knows this. I wouldn't be surprised if the last time the Sun endorsed a Republican for the governorship was in the 1950s....

You're simply pissed off because they took a long, hard look at Jealous and finally decided they couldn't do it. And it has absolutely nothing to do with skin colors involved. Jealous is just not a valid candidate.

Exactly. It’s on the Maryland Democrats that they could not field a decent, competent alternative to Hogan.

I thought Madaleno was a good choice for that alternative, but other Dem voters didn’t agree with me.

NP here. Wow, never saw this coming, but good for the Sun for endorsing a candidate whom they see is the best for the job, regardless of political party.

This endorsement matters. I may change my vote based on this endorsement and the well-reasoned argument behind it.

No, the Sun is notorious for being liberal and pro-Democrat all the way. I hate reading The Sun because it is so bias against Republicans. This is a huge win for Hogan!

Maybe the US shouldn't have gone in and destabilized their governments decades ago in order to make it easier for US business interests while creating a power vacuum, and maybe we shouldn't be fighting a senseless drug war that only helps cartels? Maybe we should have thought of that? I know the Governor's race is about Maryland, not US foreign policy, but Senator Cardin is our voice in the federal government. We have to sleep in the bed we make.

There are a few of you who keep falsely accusing Hogan of racism. He is not racist. He has a black Lt. Governor. He has an Asian wife.

All the more proof. He's overcompensating, trying to hide behind his buddy and his wife.

"Oh, I just CAN'T be a racist - some of my BEST friends are Black! And my wife is an Oriental, too!"

Yeah no. He's as racist as trump.

You have GOT to be kidding.

“He's as racist as trump.”

You have no basis for this claim.

How bout this, let's take all the migrants in that caravan and divvy them up amongst all the states. Further, for those who end up in MD, lets make sure that instead of putting them in schools in SS and Germantown, that they end up in Bethesda and Potomac schools for a change. Does that sound cool? Because it's not fair that only certain schools have been taking on the burden of educating these children. I had nothing to do with the decisions that the US govt made years ago so no, I don't feel inclined as a citizen to pay for whatever mistakes they've made.
Anonymous
I just cast my vote for Larry Hogan (early voting) and have no doubts about it like I do with most candidates. He's been the best governor MD has had since Harry Hughes, who was a sensible Democrat.

It speaks volumes that both the Washington post and Baltimore son have endorsed Governor Hogan.

It honestly speaks of nothing. I don't follow the Sun much, but the Post is notorious for endorsing GOP candidates that are a lock to win as long as they are not too far to the right. Hogan is a stone-cold lock. Show me the last time either of these papers endorsed a GOP candidate in a CLOSE race . These endorsments are meaningless.

No, the only racist here is you. Showing your true colors and your disdain for Asians. I detect some jealousy and resentment in your post. Also, I personally know Hogan. I'm not fond of politicians at all, but Hogan is truly a great guy. I say this as minority who pretty much despises both parties. Hogan is a stand up guy. If I truly thought that he was a racist, then I will not have voted for him. Hogan is the type of person that I will invite in my home and break bread with.

I wish Hogan would run for President.
