| does anyone have a link to share that helps explain the ballot/county for arlington county? I lean (strongly) democrat but ideally would read a neutral explanation of candidates and issues. it seems like such a thing should exist but i'm not finding it online easily. |

| Thanks- this is basically what I was seeking but wondering if there's an independent analysis of these issue (v. a candidate's personal statement) |
| What issues specifically? Arlington is heavily D. The only real race is at the CB level between Vihstadt and De Ferranti. Vihstadt is about the only non Democrat in all of Arlington County. Praying he wins re-election. |
| While it's a meaningful race for us locally, it's too small a race for any neutral third party to invest the time in researching and analyzing. If you have specific questions about the candidates I'm sure people here would be able to give you their thoughts, but I'm not aware of any resource like what you're asking for. |
+1. Dems are pushing De Ferranti HARD, but I hope common sense prevails here (and I’m normally a Dem myself). |
Another strong Dem here who's voting for Vihstadt, because schools. |
| Can you explain more (aboutDe Ferranti v. Vihstadt)?I would typically vote pure D so that's my default... |

| Thanks so much - I literally just went and changed my vote (on my absentee ballot). Schools are our #1 issue. |

Might have been helpful to have known that the Arlington Teachers association supported DeFerranti. Normally teachers support the candidate who's better for the schools. |
Arlington Education Association PAC. |
AEA statements from the linked article: “Matt impressed the interview committee with his deep commitment to social equity and his understanding of the issues facing both employees and students of medium and lower income in their struggle to live and work in Arlington County,” said Jeffrey Elkner, who heads the political-action committee. “Matt demonstrated that he is a leader open to hearing the ideas and concerns of our community,” Elkner said. “His voice on the County Board would help make our local government a more effective advocate for all of Arlington’s residents.” The "medium and lower income" mention is key. Vihstadt's going to make sure what gets taxed in North Arlington STAYS in North Arlington. There's no reason to bother with anything on or South of Columbia Pike, save for pockets like Arlington Ridge, Shirlington, Fairlington, Crystal City economic development, and the Barcroft Park athletic complex. Vihstadt made sure that the County didn't dump all sorts of money on the Bus Rapid Transit that replaced the streetcar. He's done whatever he can procedurally to derail moves to spend our dollars on AH, there or elsewhere. That's all I can ask. With schools, John advocating added funding gets us leverage. If I can get my FARMS kids concentrated with yours in a third school, we're both better off while the third school would be not much different anyway. The Nottingham/Discovery/Tuckahoe dump of students into McKinley was something like a pilot for this. The transfer of Montessori out of Drew lets it and Hoffman-Boston soak up kids so that we're better off. If you want to go with the "Educator Approved" Democrat candidate, be my guest. But understand what it means to support someone who is "Educator Approved". |
Enough about deFerranti getting the teacher endorsement. No one cares. My neighbors and I know Vihstadt will be better. |
