Might have been helpful to have known that the Arlington Teachers association supported DeFerranti.

Normally teachers support the candidate who's better for the schools.

Arlington Education Association PAC.

AEA statements from the linked article:

“Matt impressed the interview committee with his deep commitment to social equity and his understanding of the issues facing both employees and students of medium and lower income in their struggle to live and work in Arlington County,” said Jeffrey Elkner, who heads the political-action committee.

“Matt demonstrated that he is a leader open to hearing the ideas and concerns of our community,” Elkner said. “His voice on the County Board would help make our local government a more effective advocate for all of Arlington’s residents.”

The "medium and lower income" mention is key. Vihstadt's going to make sure what gets taxed in North Arlington STAYS in North Arlington. There's no reason to bother with anything on or South of Columbia Pike, save for pockets like Arlington Ridge, Shirlington, Fairlington, Crystal City economic development, and the Barcroft Park athletic complex. Vihstadt made sure that the County didn't dump all sorts of money on the Bus Rapid Transit that replaced the streetcar. He's done whatever he can procedurally to derail moves to spend our dollars on AH, there or elsewhere. That's all I can ask.

With schools, John advocating added funding gets us leverage. If I can get my FARMS kids concentrated with yours in a third school, we're both better off while the third school would be not much different anyway. The Nottingham/Discovery/Tuckahoe dump of students into McKinley was something like a pilot for this. The transfer of Montessori out of Drew lets it and Hoffman-Boston soak up kids so that we're better off.

If you want to go with the "Educator Approved" Democrat candidate, be my guest. But understand what it means to support someone who is "Educator Approved".

Oh, just saw this post after I just posted. Yes, this +100. I want to live as I want, to have my government serve me, and not waste my taxes on anything that doesn’t benefit me.

Vihstadt was endorsed by the firefighters. To me that is much more important that teachers who always blindly endorse the Dems. . And you know that DeFerranti has no kids in Arlington schools unlike Vihstadt whose kids attended Arlington schools and who was heavily involved in PTA. Only two other current board members have kids in schools. Cristok doesn’t GAF about schools because she is trying to grab a national future is politucs. Goid luck with that.

Another dem voting for vihstadt. His opposition to the trolly nonsense won me over. I also don’t think it’s good for the board to be straight dems. The rest of my ticket will be D. But I’d like to read more about the school board candidate.
