Arlington elections - which candidates for CB will get resources to the schools?

North Arlington parent of a baby. Registered Dem. Who should I vote for?

I'm also interested.

Vihstadt. He was the only one on the current county board who favored giving APS more money in the CIP process last spring. De Ferrantti’s position basically amounts to APS needing to figure out how to do more with less.

+1 but in practice he is the only one on the entire board who seems to even care. The rest of the board doesn’t and is even weirdly hostile at times (looking at you, Katie Cristol).

And Libby Garvey, but her hostility may be defensiveness since she helped create a bunch of the problems she now wants to wash her hands of.

Why is this even a question? I say that because no one actually thinks DeFerranti has any chance against Vihstadt, do they? Vihstadt annihilated the Democrat candidate TWICE the last time (special and regular).

The Dems are pushing deFerranti hard and think he was a shot. If you support Vihstadt, this is not an election to get complacent, especially not when the Kaine/Stewart race at the top of the ticket and national politics generally are expected to boost turnout a lot for registered Dems.

This is what is worrisome, and I will explain why. When I was living in Arlington in my early and mid-20s, renting and childless, I just automatically voted for whatever Dem was on the ticket. So many people truly don’t follow this stuff - and why would they? It doesn’t affect them. They don’t know better re: schools, housing, etc.

Registered democrat here voting blue for everyone except CB, where I'm voting for Vihstadt. Specifically because of the last CIP process.

I should add, I'm the parent of a preschooler.

Yes, indeed the Democrat groups are pulling out the stops. DeFerranti talks about Arlington being highest in student spending and capital costs. That’s OUR ground.

Vihstadt. Post it to social media and make sure all your Dem friends know that if they care about APS then they should NOT vote Democrat for the County Board in the next few elections. I vote Democrat almost entirely but not at the County Board level.

Can not wait for my chance to vote against Katie Cristol. I voted for her last go-around after a small group coffee with her focused on schools. She couldn’t care any less about the future of APS if she tried.

Wait a minute. If the APS teachers' PAC endorses the Democratic candidate, DeFerranti, then how is it that DeFerranti is a disaster for the schools?

BTW, how do I know all you "Democrat except voting for Vihstadt" people are really Democrats? Sounds like an organized trolling effort.

You sound like you aren’t informed enough to know one way or the other.

Are you new to Arlington? I'm wondering if you're just completely ignorant of the political history here, because otherwise I cannot imagine why you'd think this was a trolling effort.
