This is school specific.
Some schools have honor rolls, others don’t. Some have honor rolls, but don’t have assemblies. |
| They got rid of them in our ES. However, in MS those who make the honor roll get invited to an assembly with the principal and/ or speaker with a small reception. It encourages the kids and recognizes them for doing well. |
|
They don’t even get letter grades in ES. How would they have an honor role assembly?
With that said, I have an 8th grader who got straight As last year and there was never an assembly, though they did have donuts each quarter for the honor roll students. |
| Some have AB and all A Honors rolls, others only have all A Honor rolls. But nothing until MS. |
| Never. Oak Hill, Carson, TJ. Never seen one. |
| Probably because everyone is on the honor roll. |
| No honor roll in elementary for us. They don't get letter grades, so I'm not sure how they would. In MS, they do have an A and an A/B honor roll, but no assembly. |
| 5th grader at CES. The teacher gives percentages, so I they could use that if they ever had an honor roll. |
| Absolutely pathetic that lost schools are not recognizing these kids for maintaining high standards of academic achievement. I know they are doing it so the other kids wont feel bad. God forbid any student should feel bad. My 8th grader goes to Franklin Middle. I dont think they have honor roll recognition either. These school administrators dont understand human psychology. Hey principles, it's called positive reinforcement! |
| I wouldn't call Franklin middle a lost school. |
Franklin MS absolutely has honor roll assemblies every quarter. They also have a large awards ceremony at the end of the year during which all students who earned straight A's for the year are recognized, as well as the students who are chosen as "Student of the Year" by each of the teachers. Franklin also does the Positivity Project, so there is positive reinforcement constantly. In addition, the staff is constantly encouraging students, and they are extremely positive with them. There is frequent positive reinforcement. |
| I apologize for my impulsivity. I was able to confirm Franklin Middle does have an honor roll. However, as a parent, I dont recall the front office making it known. Also, using the word "lost" was unintentional. I'm in a battle with my Samsung keyboard. |
| Thank you for following up and for clarifying your use of "lost" when describing Franklin Middle School. It is definitely NOT a lost school, so I'm glad you didn't intend to use that word with regard to that school. |
I agree with this but at some lower ranked schools, I think the mentality is that the students who do well have parents who are there for them and generally have all their needs met. How can you celebrate those kids doing well when you have plenty of other kids who don't have enough to eat, just arrived in the country without any formal schooling, whose parents are absent or all of the above? My kid got all As so I'm waiting to see if there will be something for him, but I'm not holding my breath. |
