You need to negotiate a good deal not wait for dome special sale

Figure out exactly what you want - model, add ons etc. contact every dealer nearby for a quote on exactly what you want. Get the price you’d pay to walk out the door with keys (including any fees, wheel locks, etc)). Refuse to test drive or visit the dealer until you get a firm number.

If you’re trading an old car, have the 2 or 3 lowest priced dealers give you a trade estimate. From there pick the best dealer, negotiate the price down and/or trade up and do the deal.

End of model year is best

with 2019 coming out, you should be able to make a deal on a 2018

Actually August is the best time.

I thought the best time was the last few days of the month, because dealers are trying to meet monthly quotas.

End of month, end of quarter, end of model year. Anything else is just marketing.

This. Since Thanksgiving is early this year, you might be able to hold off until that following week. If I were you, I would test drive on Black Friday and then decide what you want, and then let dealers make a deal over the following week.
We bought a 2018 Odyssey last year, and the best thing we did was get the Costco price and then shop around. Also, check out this thread for recent pricing: https://www.odyclub.com/forums/81-2018-odyssey/343146-2019-odyssey-prices-paid.html

(I assume the other minivans have their own forums - I just don't know what they are!)

+1 December 31st would be a much better time to buy than New Year's Day -- all the dealerships are trying to hit their monthly/quarterly/annual goals. I've actually never heard that beginning of the year was a good time to buy -- OP if you're thinking you'd be getting a better deal on last year's model then, that starts in the prior fall, no need to wait until the calendar flips.

Last day of the month in the fall if you want a 2018.

I bought my last car on the evening of October 31st. Test drove it the night before, and we finally came to an agreement on the price at 7 PM on Halloween.

It may be too late for that, we got a great deal on a 2018 Sienna last month. We were worried that we were going to miss the Labor Day sales, but the promotion from Toyota got even better the week after, they were really trying to clear out the 2018 models.

About 1989 would have been a good time to buy a minivan. But it's 2018. Have some self- respect. You're a parent, but don't be a dolt.

12/31 will be way too late for most 2018 model years. I’d look at 18’s now rather than 19’s on 12/31. Plus, brrrrrrrr!!! Car shopping in December?

We ended up getting a great deal on a previous model year in late January of the current model year. Basically we bought a 2015 SUV in January of 2016. They gave us every incentive they could give us, plus some. I just kept pointing outside to a semi trailer full of 2016 models waiting for somewhere to go.
