I realized we only need 28 grams of sugar per day.
a tall non whip cream pumpkin spice latte has 28g of sugar. How do I avoid sugar in my diet? |
|
Well, stop getting tall non whipped cream pumpkin spice lattes every day for one.
BTW, I don't worry about natural sugar in things like fruit, only added sugars. |
| A good place to start is sugar in beverages. No more PSLs. Just coffee with half and half. Water. Diet soda if you must have soda. Tea. |
| I don’t understand your question. It’s not complicated, just don’t buy and consume products with added sugar. Read labels at the supermarket and don’t order thinks like pumpkin spice lattes. |
|
Stop eating things with added sugar on a regular basis - especially sweetened beverages. Drink unsweetened coffee. Don't drink juice - eat whole fruit abundantly.
|
| Check labels. Don't eat anything with added sugar. You can find lots of salad dressings, ketchup, etc. at Whole Foods with no added sugar. |
| Read labels. Even meats often have sugar, especially bacon, sausage, and lunch meats. You have to work at it to eliminate all sugar. And, it's not good to switch to sugar substitutes. |
| What’s the thought on a packet or two or three (total throughout the day) in coffee or tea? |
Of a sugar substitute or “natural” sugar. Stevia, truvie, etc |
I did Keto for a month. I didn’t like the diet in general (I missed things like apples and toast), but it really changed my attitude toward sugar in my family’s diet. I realized how much sugar was in a lot of foods I normally ate and decided to restrict it to desserts and candy . I would rather have some trail mix and a cookie than a granola bar. Or a piece of chocolate with my coffee rather than a shot of hazelnut flavor. I think cutting sugar out completely is no fun, but eating it should always be enjoyable

I was reading the label on my kidney bean pasta last night and 10g of sugar! My Wegmans pasta sauce 15 g!
So sneaky! |
You can't at the total sugar grams - you have to look at the ingredients. Those 10g or 15g are totally fine if they're from naturally existing sugars (tomatoes, etc). You have to actually read the ingredients (better yet, make your own pasta sauce from scratch).
|
Most jarred pasta sauces have added sugar. Once you make an effort to buy sauces without it, you can really taste it if you grab the wrong one. |
|
Do you mean the added sugar or do you mean carbohydrates? If things tastes sweet, then it has sugar.
Cut out the latte and you won't be adding 28g of sugar in your body. Most of our diets are really high in sugar. And it's worse for carbs. A bagel here, latte there, lemonade, jelly. Lots of sugar in many things. |
| Read labels and/or make your own stuff. I have an issue with sugar/cabs in that I cannot control myself when eating it. So, as an alcoholic would, I went cold turkey. Have been eating keto for a while now and sugar is in EVERYTHING. I make most of the things I eat from scratch and the rest I only eat if it has a label and it has the right information on it. |
