Blockbuster NY Times Investigation - Trump's Tax Schemes To Gain Riches From His Father

I haven't finished reading yet, but here's the lede

President Trump participated in dubious tax schemes during the 1990s, including instances of outright fraud, that greatly increased the fortune he received from his parents, an investigation by The New York Times has found....

...But The Times’s investigation, based on a vast trove of confidential tax returns and financial records, reveals that Mr. Trump received the equivalent today of at least $413 million from his father’s real estate empire, starting when he was a toddler and continuing to this day.

Much of this money came to Mr. Trump because he helped his parents dodge taxes. He and his siblings set up a sham corporation to disguise millions of dollars in gifts from their parents, records and interviews show. Records indicate that Mr. Trump helped his father take improper tax deductions worth millions more. He also helped formulate a strategy to undervalue his parents’ real estate holdings by hundreds of millions of dollars on tax returns, sharply reducing the tax bill when those properties were transferred to him and his siblings.

Our President is a tax fraud and a thief. And we haven't even seen his own tax returns yet - this is just based on his parents' taxes.

Can we please, please make tax fraud by plutocrats a major issue? I get that many can’t get beyond Trump-hatred, but think of how much better this country would be if these major tax frauds (and legal tax avoidance) were largely things of the past!

There is none for the civil side. No idea for the state of New York.

Between the money laundering and this...hoo boy.

Damn straight! Do you NOT think it's a massive problem? I could believe you don't, lots of useful idiots on DCUM.

NYT: "Here is what can be said with certainty: Had Mr. Trump done nothing but invest the money his father gave him in an index fund that tracks the Standard & Poor’s 500, he would be worth $1.96 billion today."

So in other words, Trump is a lousy businessman.

This is actually quite a common story. Getting big $$$ is seldom about business acumen in the conventional sense (i.e. good at buying low, selling high), but is generally about grabbing assets through untoward means.

BTW, if you want another index fund under-performing plutocrat, check out Donald Sterling's buy/sell prices for the LA Clippers of the NBA.

Watching cable now...Trump had $1M by age 8. What a "self-made" man. People in hick states bought his line of "self-made" ...hook, line and sinker.

Cool! My apologies for using "idiot", the Kavanaugh threads haven't eaten my brain or at least my politesse!

Honestly, I'd love to direct some of the Trump-hatred to reducing the sway of his kind (plutocrats) over our society.

pp again: i agree in part, that it would be great to topple plutocrats. but i also have a distinct and unique hatred for trump that goes well beyond his klepto-craziness and being a member of the wealthy ruling class. i would more or less deign to be ruled by the rich so long as they were benevolent, smart, and good - but he is just so evil and dumb.
