Should MCPS loose funding for failure to protect children from sexual abuse?

Chicago Public Schools is loosing millions of dollars of Federal funding because of failure to protect children from sexual abuse.

With almost two employees arrested per month, MCPS isn't being proactive regarding preventing child abuse and neglect. Should the US Department of Education investigation and penalize MCPS?

I did and didn't see "almost two per month , or about 20 to 24 in a year.
Can you provide that?

Also, if they are catching them, doesn't it mean they are stopping them?

Not really. 353 employees were reported in FY 18, and these are just the ones reported. Failure to report goes unpunished and is not a criminal offense in Maryland.

The vast majority of these 353 employees are still working with children.

I would welcome an investigation by the US Department of Education.

How does losing funding help MCPS stop this OP? If they lose funding what will they cut? Background checks on employees? Maybe Chicago has two arrests per month because they have more abusers on their payroll? Their school system is larger than our's, so it makes sense that they have a higher number of abusers in their system.

In February 2018 - two MCPS employees were arrested in DC on drug charges. Not sexual abuse but would you want these individuals dealing drugs to your kids?

NP

I don’t understand the relevance. Can you explain?

OP makes some valid points. MCPS has a horrendous track record of keeping schools safe from sexual predators. Is that true or not? What does OP’s writing ability have to do with that?

Money is the only power the Federal Government has over public schools. Losing millions of dollars is the price MCPS should pay if children are not protected from child abuse and neglect while at school.

But it is the children who will end up paying with fewer resources to spend on education..
