Shooting near Drew elementary

Anonymous
What's this, the fourth shooting near the school in two years? School was on lockdown this afternoon, according to ARLNow. Not a good look for the "new Drew".

Fortunately the shooting wasn't at the school and had nothing to do with the school. What were these other three incidents of shootings near the school during the school day?

Unfortunately kids were outside and it was directly across the street.

Across the street from the rear of the parcel, with a baseball diamond, the community center, the sprayground, and a roadway in between the incident and any kids outside. It did not involve the school, stop trying to make it like it did.

And I'm still waiting for you to substantiate your claim that it's the fourth shooting in two years. I'm sure you didn't just pull that from your ass to try to slander the school.

PP again, I have to amend that because they've updated the location of the shooting in the article. There was actually the school building itself, the baseball diamond, a parking lot, a couple of houses and a couple of commercial buildings between where the kids were playing and where the shooting happened.

Not quite. It's the fifth shooting in five years. Which is 4 or 5 more than probably any other part of Arlington in that time.

Here's the driveby from December: https://www.arlnow.com/2017/12/08/police-active-and-ongoing-investigation-into-nauck-drive-by-shooting/
Here's the June 2017 murder: https://www.arlnow.com/2017/06/17/breaking-police-investigating-murder-in-nauck/
Here's the 2014 "teen shot in the butt" shooting: https://www.arlnow.com/2014/10/24/teen-shot-in-butt-in-nauck/
Here's the 2013 driveby: https://www.arlnow.com/2013/10/04/breaking-shooting-reported-in-nauck/

All of those happened well into the night when there were no children at the school. They have nothing to do with the school or with Virginia public schools generally.

But hey, I get it. You really, really, really want people to be scared of the poor black/brown school. Classy.

Did you know there was a shooting near Nottingham last year?

THATs a relief! It was in front of the preschool, not the elementary school. I live in the neighborhood and this is unacceptable, day or nights, half a block a way or on the grounds themselves.

Let me guess, you’re in a unit that could end up zoned for Drew this fall and you’re nervous about what those demographics might look like now that Montessori is moving out so you’re kicking up a fuss about Drew being a dangerous place in the hopes you’ll motivate your neighborhood to get your unit zoned elsewhere. Posting on Nextdoor would be a more effective way to reach them directly but then you’d have to put your name on it.

Nope. I live in Nauck proper and have for years. You're hearing a local speak some truth. I didn't slander the school. I pointed out that it ain't great when the surrounding neighborhood averages one shooting a year near the school. Sorry if offends you in an abstract way but I actually live here and care about it.
