We just got a letter from FC stating our 2-d grade daughter is in!!! |
we got the letter .....yupee she is in also.... |
Our 3-rd grade son has being accepted... |
Got my 2nd grader's letter Friday. I am surprised she got in - she had a 10 on GBRS. I was sure that sunk her chances. |
What were her test scores? |
130 on the NNAT. But she also had an IQ test in the 98th percentile that we submitted with her app. Don't know if that helped. |
Probably did. The NNAT and Cogat are given to a group. A high test score from an individual test like WISC-IV or Stanford-Binet is big. It probably showed them things that made up for a GBRS of 10. Congratulations! |
I almost wonder if 10 is a cutoff. (with strong test scores, I know of some with lower test scores than my ds, but higher GBRS who were admitted). Last year, ds did not get in with a GBRS of 9. This year, we parent referred, but did not get any additional testing, as we felt his Naglieri and CogAt were sufficient already. This year, he got an 11, and was admitted. |
I am so proud of my child for being accepted, I want to "face brag" - share on FB. But I guess that's out of the question. |
20:43, I'm with you, about wanting to shout from the rooftops. However, my DD got in and I made the mistake of skirting the issue with the parent of one of DD's close friends, whose sibling is in AAP and I'd thought for sure would be accepted. Parent asked me "So, did [DD] get in," and I answered yes. I had fully expected parent would then say his own DD had been accepted, but when that didn't happen, the conversation became awkward, at least for me. Going forward I'm going to steer clear of this topic with any parents of peers about this until we've gone to the AAP orientation and see who attends. |
10:37 - I so hear you. I'm thrilled DC got in, but can't share with anyone IRL. That's why I keep posting here. ![]() |
This happened to me a couple of times. Awkward! I did say that I was sorry that they didn't get good news, and did ask if they were going to appeal. I also put DC on notice NOT to discuss this with classmates. If someone asked, fine....but no bragging! I did not Face-brag this as well. My family knows because I told my mother MIL and they are shouting from the rooftops on my behalf. LOL. |
MIL shouting from the rooftops on your behalf is completely acceptable!!
DD also is on notice not to discuss, but who knows how that's going to go. She really wants to know which of her friends may be in her class next year, as we are trying to decide whether to stay at our Level IV school or move over to the Center. I can't wait until orientation. We'll have a clearer idea of how to proceed after that. |
My daughter did not make it. She has NNAT 135 (99 percentile), Cogat 120 (89 percentile), and GBR 7. Should WISC be taken by her? |
15:57, I would take WISC and would talk to your DC's teacher and see what else can be put into the file (i.e., additional new strong work samples or other progress since last Jan/Feb) to support the appeal.
Best of luck with your appeal! |
