cutoff scores for Fairfax County GT centers for this year?

This might be obvious, but does that mean that the screening cut-off would be 130 for the WISC also? Thanks

I still have not gotten test scores for my second grader. Has anyone else not gotten them??? Does anyone know if they went out for all schools.

FCPS doesn't use WISC-IV scores as a screening cut-off as they do with FCPS-administered CoGAT and NNAT.

Yes, no cutoff on the WISC, it is considered as part of the overall package. But not testing is required other than the CoGAT or NNAT (if your child is an FCPS second grader).

Last year we did not get our second set of scores until after the Winter Break, they came home in the first Tuesday packet. So I think each school does it a little differently. You could contact your school's GT coordinator next week if you still haven't heard anything.

Same here for us last year.

We are applying from outside of FCPS and WISC-IV is the only test score we submitted. I was just wondering if the CoGAT and NNAT scores "run parallel" with the WISC scores and whether there would be any kind of unofficial minimum score FCPS would be looking for on the WISC. Thanks to everyone for the info!

My child's CoGAT was 138, the NNAT was 136, and the WISC-IV was 149.

What happens to the kids who are in the 90th percentile or higher? It seems like they sort of get pushed out even though that is still waaay better than average.
You put them in private school, because the public won't meet their needs. We had our kids tested independently (WISC IV), got IQ of 128 and 133, and they didn't qualify (on appeal). We knew they were much more capable than the work they were getting, so we moved to private for a few years. Middle and High school are great for us back in public school.
I've thought about putting my child to private school if he's not accepted into GTC. But the problem is, how do I know which private school will meet his need? Could you please refer some good private schools? We live near Tysons. Thanks!

I have a 3rd grader in AAP/GTC. They sailed in fairly easily.

I also don't personally know of a single family that appealed their child getting in that didn't get their child in. Not saying they don't exist, just saying that from my casual, non-scientific observation - you push, your child gets in.................

My son's composite score (not individual sub-score) is 131 for the CogAT, any know if this is qualified for getting in the GT pool? Please advise. This year's cut-off is 130

I can't imagine what I would do if my child barely missed this arbitrary cutoff. Why not a spectrum of additionally challenging work, depending on scores. Seems a lot of bright kids are being left out. No wonder parents are so worried.

My child is in private, for many reasons. Bit this thread makes me feel sympathy for parents with super bright kids who have missed a very high theshold.

In past years, the screening pool was based on getting any one score above the cutoff, not the composite. So any score above the cutoff on any one subpart of the CoGAT or on the NNAT was the criteria for the screening pool. Last year, my DD did very well on the NNAT (150) but only OK on the CoGAT (123 composite, all subpart scores 122-124). She was in the screening pool but I was worried about her uneven scores, so I had private WISC testing done just in case, but she got in with no issues. I submitted a bunch of additional info: some certificates, some work samples and a letter of recommendation.

The "arbotrary" cutoff is just for the screening pool. A parent can nominate his or her child even if they miss the cut off (as can a teacher). Also, this is just for the GT centers, there is GT-ish work at the home schools as well. In theory, a child should get GT-ish work if her or she is ready for it, even if they are not in a center. The parent or teacher would speak to the GT specialist at the school. So bright (but apparently not "gifted") kids should not be left out. Of course, the parent has to be the advocate.

PP here. Sorry, I spelled arbitrary incorrectly. Guess I'd miss the cut off.
