That’s what this has always been about and he is rushing to do it. Why?

If there was a legitimate reason to update the bunker — go to congress. Get authorization. Get apropos. Get checks and balances.

But that did not happen.

What is he up to??

I hope he’s not going to get us nuked while he lives out his life underground, but he’s such a vile narcissist I could see it happening. Though does Thiel stay at the White House or does he go to his bunker in New Zealand?

They’re probably all fans of the show Paradise.

There are no fully fleshed out plans, just intern-level renderings (where the inside and the outside done even add up) The announced price keeps going up. They can’t build what they’re planning. So I think it’s just a huge money grab for Trump. He’s going to skim the money off of the “foundation” and the building will run into “huge delays” and will be unfinished in 2029. They will claim that they ran into “unexpected issues” and “ran out of money” and will stick it to the US taxpayer to finish rebuilding the WH.

Honestly at this point it’s probably the best case scenario. It would save us money in the long run.

Quote from Stephen Colbert:

“That is very upsetting to look at, and you know the administration knows that because today, the Secret Service closed access to the Ellipse park, which is a public park from which journalists have been capturing live images of the East Wing demolition. Well, that makes sense: if none of it's on camera, they can just claim the East Wing hanged itself in prison.”

Yeah no. You are such a lying hypocrite.

What am I seeing here? Is this a single republican who is angry about this? Please explain?

Notice the “White House destruction! OMG!!” in the background?

- he is pointing out that Obama did that. With taxpayer money. Yes: that background photo shows the Obama-ordered demolition of the historic WH building to make way for Obama’s basketball court.

Democrats are hypocrites.

You can't really be this stupid?

Wow. The narrative is that Obama tore down the West Wing to make a basketball count so we’ve been living with a mirage for 16 years?

Please seek help. A therapist will help you deal with reality and help you understand you’re worthy enough to have higher expectations.

Yes that is a photo of the current destruction, not of the minor modification to add a basketball court. If you think these are the same, you are an idiot. I stand by what I said, if Biden had knocked down the entire wing with a bulldozer, you would be choking on the froth bubbling from your throat.

Here are some statistics to consider regarding the new White House Ballroom.

The projected size of the new facility is 90,000 square feet and the projected cost is $300 million. That works out to $3333 per square foot. On-line cost estimators suggest $300 - $500 per square foot for a “premium venue” space. $1500 per square foot would be reaching the upper limit for practically any project. For example:
• An acute care medical facility, which can cost up to $1,468 per square foot in New York City and $1,455 per square foot in Honolulu.
• A museum/performing arts building which can cost up to $1,304 in New York City.
• A five-star hotel, which can cost up to $1,108 in New York City and $1,044 in San Francisco.
• A high-rise office building in New York City ($1,026).

A sit-down banquet requires 10–12 square feet per person for a comfortable setup. That includes room for chairs, a little elbow room, and walkways for guests and servers. At 20 square feet per person, 999 people would require just under 20,000 square feet. Throw in another 10,000 square feet for pre-function, support functions, maybe a dance floor and it’s still only 30,000 square feet.

That leaves a surplus of 60,000 square feet. What's that all about?

He's building a Putin-style fortress for himself to insulate himself from the nation he is destroying.

Agree the size is enormous for amount they’re saying it Will accommodate. Also, the plans show an ugly double height colonnade (they tore down the original, so is it two levels or just ginormous in height. If the latter, why not keep the original to preserve a semblance of symmetry?

I read yesterday that the architect is the one who glued gold-sprayed Hobby Lobby reliefs onto the Oval Office, so I suppose that’s our answer.

I just hope, for their own sake, that whatever contractors are working on this project were paid up front.

According to the author of The Haves, and the Have Yachts, ultra wealthy are obsessed with preparing for bunker life. And they’re making it extremely luxurious. Even planning on how to bring their staff. New Zealand is a popular spot for them, so Peter is not alone. It’s partly paranoia, and partly that they’ve run out of other wants and got bored. So now they’re designing redwood lined games room in their bunkers. I’m not making this up.

But MAGA directs all their anger at professionals working for good salaries instead and saving for their kids’ college. So here we are.

This is 100% his MO. Excellent analysis.

I can’t believe anyone thinks he’d
build something that he won’t even get to use. Either he plans on staying, or he plans on using it to steal the money.

When a dictator knows they’re losing popularity and that their list of enemies just keeps getting longer, they build a good bunker:

Karoline Leavitt was asked if "the president is looking at any other renovations" at the White House?

Karoline answered: "At this moment in time of course, the ballroom is really the president's main priority."

This is how easily Democrats lie about stupid stuff.
