Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS)
We really like this new principal. He’s so nice to my child and all the kids. The teachers and parents hating on him is just because they want their old drinking buddy back. Get over Coch. He’s gone. |

I hear a lot of whining but no legitimate reasons of concern regarding the new principal. He seems present and engaged with the students. Students do really like him and from a parent perspective, I see no issues either.
As for staff morale, they’ve all been complaining of burn out since 2020. TBH most parents are totally over the “burnt out” teacher rhetoric esp at a school like Navy where teachers are spoiled by parents and the PTA well beyond what most other teachers across the district get. Half of them are checked out anyways and maybe it’s better for them to leave if they are not going to properly teach and engage students. This is a great school for teachers who love to teach. The parents will take care of you like no other school in the area. If you are a teacher you should seek Navy out. |
+1 nicely put. |
Why do you think Franklin isn't large enough to accommodate the AAP students? Franklin has space for another 200 or maybe even 300 students without needing trailers. |
Nice topic change. Some AAP kids do chose to go to Franklin. Smaller, closer school and easier to get into TJ. |
+1,000 Bravo. This is exactly how I feel. |
Please stop acting like Starbucks and muffins is spoiling teachers just STOP you sound entitled and condescending. Maybe we should talk about whiny, checked out parents constantly demeaning educators... rumors are NAVY parents are extremely entitled. I'd keep looking teachers! |
| It’s a little late to try and rehabilitate Navy’s reputation. Teachers who are paying attention already know to steer clear of that community. |
Who’s talking about muffins and Starbucks? Try over $200 in cash or gift cards for the holiday and end of year gifts. The PTO makes teachers have wishlists which the room moms to get a bunch of stuff from. Try gift cards at every godd*mn holiday and even a giant birthday gift. Try gift cards for teacher appreciation week. Try an Amazon wishlist posted at open house that parents are encouraged to get stuff from. Try book fair gifts. Try going to a Title 1 school and see what you get. STFU. |
LOL just Starbucks and muffins? Try $1000s in gift cards over the course of the year for holidays, birthdays and EOY. Try an entire week of teacher appreciation full of daily catered meals, ice cream trucks, coffee stations, dessert bars, entire gift card bouquets, not to mention all the other gifts given independently by students. Try a form filled out by every teacher stating their likes and dislikes so gifts can be bought accordingly. Parents and the PTA accommodate all of this and much more to keep the teachers happy, but it is unappreciated by some. Navy does have some amazing teachers, but a few of definitely grown complacent and complain nonstop about burn out. It’s time to grow up and be grateful. There are so many other schools in our district who don’t get even a small fraction of the gifts and resources that Navy teachers get. |
Maybe they don't want gobs of food and trinkets. Maybe they want you to trust them to do their jobs. Maybe they want you to take all that money and ask them what they want...what they actually need...they can buy their own snacks. |
So they don’t want the $80K worth of projectors for their classrooms? |

The gift cards and chocolates are nice and most parents are normal. That’s the plus side.
But the reality is this: Among teachers in the county, Navy is increasingly known to be a school with many (though not majority) unhinged parents with an uncontrolled sense of entitlement (as seen on previous posts, for example). And it’s getting worse, which is why many teachers won’t be returning next year. Think of it this way, at your job, would gift cards and treats be enough to stay in a position with nightmare clients when you could easily switch to a different position with normal clients? |
Wait a minute, so now it’s the parents that are the issue? I thought it was the principal. Personally, I can’t wait until some of the lazy teachers at Navy leave! |
