No one is "expecting" to be admitted to an elite college. People are "expecting" to not be discriminated against their race. I think black people would agree that no one should be discriminated against because of their race. |
+1 Exactly. Get used to attending places like UVA and Georgia Tech. It will be fine. If you don't like it, well, there are other continents. |
Again, apples and oranges. Why do you think you have it so hard? Because you and most other people can not be admitted to your school of choice? Cry me a river. |
+1 And for every "asian" rejected, there are many more who are also rejected. Because 95% of those who apply are rejected. Harvard (and most other T20s) see the benefits of offering admission to the low income kid from a HS with 85% FARMS who has managed to overcome so much based simply on where they were born and the education system they grew up in, who is valedictorian, a leader and has the drive to succeed. Just so happens that many times that kid is Black or Latino (or not Asian). And yes, if that kid only gets a 1500, that is worth more as they didn't test prep, they didn't live the privileged life, they were in school with kids the majority of whom are not even going to graduate HS let alone go to any college. They might have to work 20hr+/week to help pay the bills at home or take care of siblings or grandparents, etc. The schools recognize how smart these kids are despite the struggles in daily life they have had. Quite honestly, I would be embarrassed to be complaining about this if my kid didn't get into a T20 (and they did not---got WL at 2 and had 4 great choices in the 30-60 range) I'm smart enough to recognize my kid grew up with privileges that most do not have, and they will continue to have and that my kid will do just fine at a non-T20 school, because of all of that. Fact is there are not enough spaces, most get rejected, so it is not really about race, it's just sour grapes your kid wasn't lucky enough to win the lottery |
I actually think this is the way the Supreme Court is going to come out on this. They'll say you're not harmed by having to attend a UVa or Georgia Tech. |
Precisely, because it is still better than what you would get at home. |
Strong students attending less prestigious schools is a good thing for the latter. It will boost the rigor and name of the schools and make them more desirable for the next generations. |
I think they will find UNC used race to be too much a determinative factor, but then the school will just switch to some other non-racial holistic measures to get the same student body they want. |
x100000 Colleges will continue to accept those that they know did not get the advantages of prep and tutors. Period. Like it or not. This includes the essays, by the way! If you do not like the fact that there are not enough spaces, and that you are competing with your own people, your need to address it with your own people. The fewer there are of one kind, the higher your chances of being admitted - BUT it is and will always be a lottery. Because (wait for it) THERE ARE SIMPLY NOT ENOUGH SPACES BECAUSE THERE ARE TOO MANY APPLICANTS. |
They will! Because they can - no parent or group will dictate what the schools do - it does not work that way. |
Black people wish you would be just as vocal when it comes to pay disparity........right crickets.... |
What do you mean by "at home"? Should African Americans accept discrimination because it's better than what they would get "at home"? |
If you are saying anyone is discriminated against being admitted to T20 - you are saying the 90% rejected but eligible applicants should be admitted. This will not happen, because admission to T20 is a lottery. Someone should have told you that. You were misinformed. |
You need to look up the definition or URM. You are hard headed and not making sense. |
I thought all these applicants were good at math. Guess not. |
