Unfortunately those are league teams. I’d say 3 of the 5 would smoke any IAC team in football and 4 of the 5 in basketball. You got to take the good with the bad. What other sports is the IAC good in? Boys field hockey?

Look, I was responding to a PP who claimed BI, Oconnell, St. Mary's Ryken, McNamara and one other bottom feeder WCAC school would smoke the IAC in football and basketball. The stats don't back that up. Nobody was trying to put the IAC on the same pedestal as the WCAC football powerhouses that have more than 2x the number of boys in the high school. Some IAC schools have less than 300 boys. They still do pretty well against the WCAC second tier. Relax, Gonzaga dad. Relax.

The days of trying to compare conferences ended years ago. The WCAC allows for athletic scholarships which are not need based and the IAC doesn't (largely upheld now that Bullis has a new president). SJC lacrosse has jumped on that over the last 3 years and created a competition gap. The IAC has stopped scheduling them in general bc of the imbalance and the aggressive nature of their recruiting current students. The WCAC is a National sports conference with compensated athletes and the IAC isn’t. It’s not going to get any better.

WCAC schools do NOT and CANNOT offer athletics scholarships only need-based or academic. That's not saying that they may be able to fit the athletes they recruit into one of those categories but there are requirements such as financials as well as required grades to maintain those scholarships.

As others mentioned it is very rare in lacrosse v football and basketball

SJC lax has been actively giving athletic scholarships for 4 years. The Hawks parents brag about it. Mitchell took a NL player from Bullis to DeMatha mid-semester on full scholarship. The family and the kid brags about it.

Prep houses players from out of town and gives scholarships.

Luckily Bullis and Gonzaga play St. John’s. Prep refused to play SJC so we won’t know if they really belong.

Hard not to have SJC at #1 until someone beats them. Its no secret how much Cabbell hates the St John's coaches and will do anything to undermine their program.

DeMatha at #5 is a joke. The Stags had no prominent wins last season, they didn't even beat Gonzaga when Gonzaga was missing 6 kids in their starting lineup due to injuries/suspensions.

Yes, GP is a boarding school in addition to being a day school. But I do find it very interesting all these private schools seem to find so many needy basketball players.

There is some correlation. How good the program they committed to are may matter as much as overall number. But even with just the total numbers people would be surprised if for example Gonzaga or Landon with 10 lost to Good Counsel or Heights with 2.

I think it is also the quality of the commitment. SJC has players ranked in the top 100 over all some of the others do not. If Dematha has an extra D3 player on the roster it will not mean they can beat the top teams. I think you could break them down in tiers.

Tier One: GTP, Bullis, SJC, Gonzaga
Tier Two: Landon, PVI, Dematha, SSSA, STA
Tier Three: The rest

Does Tier One have the strongest 2025/2026 classes?

Who really cares about 25/26 classes? Rarely does more than one or two players make an impact in those grades. If a team is relying on freshman and sophomore contributions they are not in Tier one by default.

I disagree. I think you can have 25s that are impact players. Maybe not 26s. Some of the 25s are holdbacks anyway so it is completely plausible that they will be impact players this spring.

Ok. Name the school and position that is impacted by a 2025 that is projected to be at least all conference this year? It may happen but this is still pre season. I think the tiers are accurate based on upper class players.

Before Covid hit, those SJC 22s already crushed Prep and beat Landon. Sophomore classes can make a big difference, especially in IAC where kids are 16-17.
