Should we go back to teaching cursive

We should go back to old school and not so much CRT

I bet you thought this was really sneaky and felt so very clever. Buffoon.

I’m glad my kid can but with the importance of other things and so many hours in the day, no.

Why is this thread still going? Teachers are supposed to be teaching this in grade 2 or 3. If they're not doing it, you should talk to your teacher.

This is no joke but we had a young admin assistant in my office and during her first week I left a note on her desk about some tasks she needed to accomplish the next day. I have impeccable cursive. She confided in me the next day that she could not read cursive and asked if I could print any notes. I said no and fired her on the spot.

Some pot-stirrer who probably doesn’t even have kids heard some Republican lie about what kids are learning today.

You write notes to an admin in cursive? LOL.

Finding it hard to believe you actually have a job, let alone an admin who you fired.

Reading is fundamental!

I am 46 so I am obviously proficient in cursive but I write thank you notes in print. My kids had a teacher in 3rd grade (in FCPS, which generally does not teach cursive) who thought it was important to teach them so they both know it as well but still write thank you notes in print.

Yeah. Sounds like a “joke”.

Times change. Being proficient in typing is much more important.

How many of them can use ink pens or can write in calligraphy?

I was just coming to say this.

The original 2 things not related.
Of course should go back to teaching cursive. Lots of benefits including fine motor skills, faster note taking, fewer reversals, boost to creative writing tasks.

So if it was so bad, practice with them. Be a parent!

I hate this dude I really do but he has traumatic brain injury. Making fun of his handwriting because of that is the lowest hanging fruit. He has legitimately awful politics you can go after without being ableist.

NP, and I would accept that he had a disability that prevented him from writing neatly if he could show that he experienced other limitations on his fine motor skills. But he still owns a gun, so evidently not.

My third grader said today her teacher told her to not write in cursive, which we had taught her at home over the summer.
