I ordered two kinds of these tests from Amazon earlier this week. The BiraxNow and Ellum tests. I got the Ellum already and it's a one to two-week wait for the BinaxNow tests to arrive. Just good to have around the house for situations like this for my 8-year-old. I think CVS is also carrying them but they sell out pretty quickly. |
I agree. |
As a HS teacher, I think that’s a great plan. I would just tell him to wear a kn95 type mask and eat lunch outdoors for a couple of weeks to be safe. Those measures would absolutely satisfy the requirements for “an abundance of caution,” IMO. If he were my student, I would definitely want him in class the first week. Even though we don’t do anything too serious the first week, it’s an important week for community building and for me to get to know the students’ strengths and weaknesses in the subject matter. |
Inova kept testing and testing and testing me. No I don’t have Covid. I have something else. It’s a bit scary how “everything” is Covid. |
PP, you sound like a wonderful teacher. It is refreshing to hear your perspective on this, as most of us really are trying to the the right thing. |
It's worse than that. I don't think we should try to shape public health guidance around the Covid deniers etc because they won't trust or follow it anyway, that is a losing game that gives everyone else worse guidance in the process. But I'm a science trusting rule follower who's tested for almost every sniffle in the past 18 months, and even I would be discouraged from testing if the policy was that anyone showing any symptom had to quarantine and so did their families. This will lose the believers. |
This is why people won't test. Home test and keep it moving. |
Same. Not testing. |
So basically the exact same quarantining rules we had at the beginning in 2020? Even though we did as requested and got vaccinated. I'm just OVER all of the unvaccinated (by choice) people in the US. I honestly don't think we'll ever be free of covid here. |
What do you expect? This is what happens when you open school for unvax kids. MS and HS should be open buy K-6 should be virtual if they don't want folks sending in sick kids. |
| If he is vaccinated, no quarantine needed. Test at home. Not everything is Covid. |
Did you miss the parents unleashing holy hell all last year and especially the ones of young kids? The amount of threads saying 'let older kids stay at home, but the little ones need to be in school'. Okay Sally - the wave of plague and ICU hospitalizations is all on you because you didn't want to watch the 4 and 6-year-old for another day. |
Yup. Even though the biggest infection numbers are in people in their 20s and 30s, and sports events and bars are packed, and numbers started rising before school started, this one is definitely on Sally. GMAFB |
FWIW, a parent of a high school athlete incorrectly told to quarantine complained to student services and health services in FCPS. They undid the quarantine. So vaccinated staff and students, if told to quarantine without symptoms you should complain, complain, complain. It's NOT policy. |
