Exactly. Mr Clearance joins every thread about marijuana with dire claims of loss employment and a complete lack of understanding of the law.

This guy is a mega dotard. You have to be an idiot to get busted for smoking weed, regardless of whether you have a clearance or not. This guy knows nothing about the real world.

+2. I think bossman is mad he couldn't get cleared when people who drink or have used drugs have been able to obtain a clearance.... Or maybe he found a dime bag the other day in his daughters sock drawer and is just trying to embarrass her?

Thanks! We’ll be great, since again, most people do not work for the Federal Government.

And if they did work for Uncle Sam, your odds of catching someone are about 1 in a million. Unless of course you are using cell phone location data, Mr. Investigator LMFAO you tool.

If they work for Uncle Sam, they would need to self-report their use. So the odds of "catching" them are 100%, otherwise they committed a felony.

For now, get it in DC. At least it will be legal when you possess it and use it in VA.

You cannot legally purchase weed in DC. That is a crime.

But you can purchase a coupon. And you receive a free "gift". There are plenty of storefronts in DC now, you just need to be 21+.

That is also illegal. The "gift" is provided inconsideration of the purchase of the "coupon". If they do not provide a free "gift" to anyone that asks, then it is an illegal transaction.

The city doesn't seem to see it that way...

Nobody cares.

You should care. The problem with the current situation is that they can decide to enforce it at any time and against anybody rather indiscriminately. Anyone who purchases marijuana - regardless of whether it was a straw transaction for a "coupon" - leaves themselves vulnerable to future Federal charges. This is not like speeding or jaywalking where they need to catch you in the act. They can bring indictments years into the future.

You really think they're going to indict me for buying 3.5 grams of marijuana years ago in a manner that didn't record the actual details of the sale and when I may no longer possess it?

I'm sure everyone is self-reporting smoking weed

So given that anti-marijuana laws are racists according to the left, will Biden push thru a law legalizing MJ nationally, or will he avoid this topic?

Except that VA has now paved the way for recreational use and stores will be open in 2024. No need to make donations enter raffles for the “free gift”.

Yes. VA has legalized full recreational use, which means that there is no need for straw purchases. However, it is still not federally legal and you can still be denied a security clearance if you legally purchase and use it in VA.

Who cares? Are you really that sheltered that you don’t understand that most people do not work for the Feds?

Around the DMV, a lot of people work for the feds. And there are also a lot of private contractors whose employees need to hold security clearances. And even if you don’t work for the feds or a contractor now, you may want to do so in the future.

Again, most people do not work for the Feds. Or Fed contractors. Your endless harping on clearances is so bizarre. Get out of your gov bubble.

It’s the contractor jobs that are the real killer. Want to work in IT in the entire region? Better not smoke weed.

Lawyers too, if you want to represent contractors.

You would think lawyers and all court employees would be required to past random drug test once a quarter. The drug laws would change if you required a current clean drug test to submit legal documents or represent anyone in court.

Hopefully he gets it legalized at the Federal level.

This is a hilarious thread. Seems the party of law and order wants to scare everyone from using by taking all those highly sought after fed IT jobs off the table.

If you guys had just used a little weed on January 6th it might have mellowed you out a bit and there would have been a better outcome.

1) you don’t need a formal security clearance to lose your job over trying weed as a fed; ALL federal employees are barred from trying illegal drugs (including pot);

2) doesn’t matter where you take the weed; it could even be Amsterdam or even Thailand on vacation. If you “piss dirty,” your federal employment can be terminated for cause (that case being: you took illegal drugs);

3) did none of you federal employees bother to read all the minuscule fine print on the forms you signed prior to your entry on duty date? None of you studied the F.C.R. related to illegal drug use by federal employees and contractors??

Go take your chances, if you want to gamble with your federal career, benefits, and pension.

Crime is like that: maybe you’ll get away with it. But don’t whine and cry victim if you throw it all away just to smoke dope (which, in fact, remains unlawful under the CSA).

What do laws dealing with federal employee drug use have to do with the large majority of people around here who don’t work for the feds?

In DC, you can get edibles and joints delivered to your home by a very professional company. And no law enforcement agency around here cares.

Great! For those of us who don’t work for the federal government or a federal contractor, have never worked for the federal government or a federal contractor, and have no plans ever to work for the federal government or a federal contractor, this is really no problem. The only time I had to pass a drug test for a job, I passed easily, because I hadn’t used marijuana for months before I applied. Now I’ve got no reason to worry about it and am not throwing away anything. I appreciate your concern for the people who are in exactly the situation you keep laying out these stark warnings about, but the rest of us really don’t care about your dire scenarios.
