| From food to racism. It’s the DCUM way! |
| Americans have industrialized food. It’s cheap and there is lots of it but it will never taste the same as the way Europeans (French, Italians) produce their food. Farm to table is a norm there. Ingredients are key to food. |
You are correct that every culture/country has in theory what you describe, but I would argue that it has fallen out of fashion in the U.S. for at least a subset of the population. Now you see the rise of processed "quick and easy" foods and fast foods. Partially this is due to the rise of the two-income family. As an Italian, I have respect for other cuisines and dishes, but not when filled with antibiotics and processed ingredients. |
No doubt you are right. I just came back from Senior Day at college for DS and instead of ordering something, I am waiting to eat and I am roasting my own chicken. I eat a similar diet to Med. I am from former Yugoslavia. I know, people will say Balkan people eat mostly meat. That might be true now, but I grew up eating veggies. Non stop veggies with a little bit of meat. My mom back home cooks that way, my cousins back there cook that way. Meal is peas with a tiny bit of meat in for flavor. Or beans with a bit of meat. Sadly, there too, I don't' see my nieces and nephews cooking like we do. Ordering and fast food non stop. And so much more meat. It is obscene how much more meat people are eating today than let say in 1980s! So perhaps some Italian "militancy" about their food is for a goof reason. |
| I'm not Italian. But I do understand to some extent. Authentic Italian food is so much better than Italian American! If anyone asks me if I like Italian food I always have to clarify what exactly they are referring to. Something heavy with red sauce and a ton of low grade cheese? Nah. Saffron risotto? Hell yes. |
Strange that 6 US restaurants are the best in the world... https://www.theworlds50best.com/list/1-50 |
And how many, out of the 300 some odd million Americans, eat at these restaurants or even EAT LIKE these restaurants? This means nothing. |
Maybe get out of your bubble. In the last month, I've had great Thai food, Indian Food, French Food, Italian Food, BBQ, and New American Food. All in the DC area. |
Yeah, and that isn't American food - you aren't comparing the right things. Sorry you feel upset that American food isn't grand cuisine. It's just not. |
Sorry - except for BBQ and "new american food" whatever TF that is. |
